bee sting

Chloe must have sat on a wasp or bee....

her back hip is a little swollen and she is limping. Hubby saw her yelp and jump up so that's how we know what caused the swelling.

is there anything we should watch for that might make this serious?

I'm of absolutely no help. I just wanted to say I'm sorry that poor Chloe is hurting. Keep us posted on how she feels.

Poor, Chloe! I'm not sure what to look for, either. Sorry!

Bless her heart! I know that hurt. Perhaps she was close to some flowers or even sat on one or two that were low to the ground and were housing a bee. My Grandpaw use to put a wad of chewing tobacco on my stings and it helped with the pain. I wouldn't recommend you doing that but, maybe hubby could give it a try until you can get an answer from someone else who might have experienced the same thing. It wouldn't hurt anything but the pride maybe. I'd sure try it if it were me(yuk!) If all else fails, maybe a call to the vet who may recommend something from the drug store...wish I were more helpful.

The summer Tucker came to live with me was very dry, hardly any rain. So the bees nested underground. Tucker was always finding them and getting stung.

He had also had problems that spring w/ allergy eyes so the Vet had given me the amount of Benydril he should have.

So whenever he got a bee sting, I just automatically gave him a dose of Benydril just to be safe.

At this last annual check up, I asked about what dose he should have now. His Vet told me that if he were to have an allergic reaction to a bee sting, Benydril will take 20 minutes to get into his system. And in 20 minutes he could be dead. She said I would be better off bringing him in.

I didn't bother to tell her it takes me 20 minutes at least to get to their office. The Vet ER is even further.

She told me an allergic reaction would manifest in swollen tounge and difficulty breathing.

Very sobering because they can get stung and not have a reaction then one day get stung again and have the reaction.

This happened to my last Corgi Deb - her muzzle became swollen - lucky for me our vet is just 1 mile down the road(where they gave her an injection of something) later in the evening she had diarrhea and vomiting, but was okay by the next day. He did mention Benedryl also and said I could give her 1 mg per pound of weight - so for her it was 25mg. HOWEVER, I will say to everyone to consult with your own vet for their opinions regarding the proper dosage for your dogs.

Hope all will be fine with Chloe

I agree with the benadryl.
Same thing with Egan several months ago. Snout was all swelled up, took him to the vet after I had already given benadryl, he got a shot and they told me to continue benadryl every 6 to 8 hrs for the next 24 hrs.

But Like linda I am no vet here so check with your vet on doseage.
