A Two Corgi Saturday - 04-07-2007, 05:03 PM

You never know what you may see at the pet stores these days. In the past month, I've seen dogs attack each other in the store, one rolled over on her side and peed everywhere at a bark from another dog, and today as I walked into Pet Smart and went toward the back where they groom, low and behold, there stood a R/W Pem getting his feet trimmed. I watched the entire process and grinned the whole time.

As the groomer took him back into the "waiting" room, I began to stroll around a little watching human/dog interactions, I decided to walk back to the groomers again. I saw another Corgi, which I thought was the same one back on the table again, getting some trim work done. This time I decided to ask if his owners were in the store so I could talk with them but, she said they just drop them off until later. She also told me there had been another in the store walking around earlier but, I didn't see that one.

I've seen more Corgis in the past month than I've seen in the past ten years lately...must be something in the stars.

We ran into one of Ponzo's corgi friends again today, too! His name is Ty and he is a red and white Cardigan, his owner takes him to the dog park a lot but he never plays with any other dog but Ponzo. She loves days when we are there too, because she knows Ponz will tire him out. He is about 3 and came to her after Animal Control confiscated 14 Cardis and 12 Pems along with 2 GSDs from a elderly man's house after he passed. Apparently he had no family, and when the Corriners came, they found that he WAS a Champion breeder of Corgis in fact Ty, is believed to have tons of Points in the Confirmation Rings but there were so many AKC papers, that people are still sorting out which Papers go to which dog!
His owner says he snaps at other dogs the try to play with him, but when Ponzo is around he's all play and will tag along with Ponzo to play with other dogs that aren't corgis. The first couple times, as Ponzo would try to play with him and other dogs at the same time, Ty would high tail it back to his owner, now he will sort of go with flow. It's so cute to see. If Ponzo realizes he lost him, he'll turn around and stop playing with the other dogs and come back and hang out with Ty. The whole scene is adorable!
Seeing Ty was a real treat for Ponzo, of course it was 120 lb. newfie that really tired him, Ponzo was showing him his moves and the big guy just couldn't keep up! Too funny.

It is good to see that Corgis are getting 'special' treatment.
If you really are keen on making contact with the owners of the Corgis you should leave your details with the store staff so that they can get the owners to contact you - the store may have their contact details as customers.
