My gosh, I really want to get Taylor on a bike. But how do I buy or get made the Corgi seat and harness etc. Plus I probably also need a three wheeler bike. The alternative would be a bike-type trailer or cart.
Bailey looks superb and of course he just loves it. Has he got a leather jacket? Last edited by Michael Romanos; 04-12-2007 at 08:24 PM. |

Many people use child trailers to carry dogs, they work great. I have also seen a few other trikes with dogs in the back too. Upright adult trikes have a wire basket already on the back. I just cushioned the bottom with some foam. Bailey wears a car seat belt harness made to fasten to a seat belt and hold him in the car. At the bottom of the harness under his chest I made attachments to fasten to a four point x or cross of two nylon straps. That way he is held about in the middle of the basket. You can make a basket for a two wheel bike but a 35 lb Corgi is a lot to balance when he rushes to one side to see around you. Some do it, but typically a lighter dog. There is also a sidecar you can attach to a bike originally for children. How heavy is Taylor? No leather jacket yet!! They tell me this photo was taken on a long multi day ride. This is home made. That dog looks heavier than Bailey. ? It looks very uncomfortable to me.

Taylor weighs in at 26 lbs but can go up to 29 lbs. I might look at a child's trailor to see if one is available. Trouble is though, will Taylor stay in it - I suppose he will if properly belted in. He is famous for being wheeled around on wheelchairs at hospitals and retirement villages. I wouldn't want anything that he is not comfortable in and is subject to where he positions himself.
Get the leathers, man - goes well with them sun glasses and cap-like hat. |

The only thing I have to be very carefull about now, is that Bailey does not get overheated. I am extremely carefull about this and have water to drink and water to put on him for cooling. I am proactive, I don't wait for him to get hot I keep ahead of it. This year i am going to bring a spray bottle or water for a fine mist of water on him.I know where all the shaded places are. I have been just putting water in my hand and spreading it on him. I read that animals will lick the face of the young ones to put moisture on the face for cooling in the heat. One nice thing about a trailer or a trike is you can bring lots of stuff compared to walking. When you are moving it is also much cooler than walking. More than you would think. This was posted today in Bike Forums. It's Bailey.

Love the pics!
I have a Burley solo trailer with the seat removed that I used to bring Newman riding with me. However, since we got Tucker (a year now, can't believe it) we haven't gone riding. I don't want to leave just one dog at home and I'm not sure there's room for both of them in the Burley solo trailer.
