Thanks guys... we had some more bad news yesterday. The tri-color boy of the litter has a cleft palette and as a result had to be put to sleep today. As Nancy told us...apparently whoever is running that Rainbow Bridge wanted that puppy for him/herself. We were very sad to hear about this, although I suppose it's just how life goes.
In the meantime, Nancy is helping us look at other breeders and still asserts that if in the coming weeks something else doesn't pan out, a merle could still be ours. I am growing a little more flexible and open-minded while looking at the photos I received of the lovely little babies, but Colin is still pretty dead-set. I want to get the puppy we will both love. That said, I also spoke to Debbie (glencorgi) on the phone last night...I hesitate to say too much more about the situation, but she is certainly helping, too. You guys are just great

I'm way late, but I just wanted to say I'm sorry how the situation played out, but I'm sure there is a puppy somewhere just waiting for you to bring it home.
I'm with the others; go with your heart on the color issue. I always wanted a blue merle, but ended up with a brindle and a red because they were the best fit for us at that particular time. I love them both and wouldn't change a thing. Whatever you decide, I'm sure you will be a super mom for any puppy when it finally finds you

Like so many others, I had my heart set on a totally different puppy than I ended up with. I wanted a red and white female and had a name picked out and everything. I even turned down a tri colored female from a different breeder.
So when I found my breeder on the PWCCA and she had 8 puppies just born, 6 R&W and 2 male tris, I didn't even consider the tris. BUT... Then I met Oliver. As soon as I held Oliver (a black headed tri male) that was it! And now I just love tris! I would say keep your mind at least a tiny bit open and meet them. You'll know after the puppies are little older which one if any are for you. You're puppy is out there. Good luck!

Oh Heather. I am so sorry to hear about the male puppy. Poor you, and the poor breeder. It is SO hard when the die. For whatever reason.
I always wanted a blue merle Aussie. And I was going to name it Patches. I got a black tri and I named it Patches anyway. I was wondering how it was going. I know the right thing will happen for you. |

I know I am a tad late on this, but Heather, this is your dog, you've done so much searching and are so prepared, no one is ever going to judge you negatively for any choice you make. A dog is a huge commitment and you know this, therefore holding out for exactly what you want doesn't make you crazy or vain or selfish...It makes you human and sensible. Would any of us marry the next man we saw on the street because he had a nice car? No! You are with this dog or person til the end or are supposed to be in most cases so you get my point. If you won't settle on a job, or husband, a dog is a huge decision too!
I am so very sorry about your sad news, and I do wish you the best of luck in whatever you choose...but I also want you to know that this is about what's right for you in the long run, so it could come down to looks because its a time and emotional investment. |

Heather,
Just read this thread, so sorry to hear about this. It is so discouraging, but keep the faith....I waited a good 17 years before I finally got the opportunity to get my corgi. The heart wants what the heart wants, so you get the puppy in the color you want. Anything worth having is worth waiting for...I had to wait a whole year for my Birman kitty, then once the litter was born I had to hold my breath and hope and pray for a "pet quality" girl!! Got lucky and got her, but it was well worth the wait. I wish you the best of luck and don't give up girl!!

Heather - I am so sorry also. I know the right pup is out there waiting for you but it is still heartbreaking. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

We have had some really gorgeous pics of Corgi pups just recently on Go Corgi and I am certain that Heather will get her little gorgeous pup soon. The setbacks and the waiting will bring all the more elation when the perfect little guy/gal comes along and is nailed ( ie mission accomplished).
