Dog Tags
I've been looking at dog tags for our new pup and noticed the collar tags. At first I thought it would be a bad idea, thinking the more visible the better and because corgis have all the fluff around the neck it might not be very visible. But, then I thought about how Millie does her "shake" thing very weekend morning to get us up to feed her, jingling the id tag with the rabies tag. Also, more than one time Millie has caught her tag attachment rings on the berber rugs in our house, pinning her to the floor until someone rescues her. So, are collar tags better/worse than hanging tags?

I use tag protectors to prevent the "jingling" of the tags when Gromit scratches or shakes. They are just little rubber rings that fit around the tag. Gromit's glow in the dark too. They were only about a buck a piece. I figure - as sensitive as their little doggie ears are, if the jingling annoys me, imagine how much it bothers the poor doggies!
My guy has never had a problem getting stuck to the berber carpet, but one time when he was rolling around in a pile of dirty clothes (one of his favorite past-times - yucky!), a pair of underwear got caught on his collar. It was so funny watching him run through the house with them hanging off his neck!

You can also get pouches to put the tags in which quietens the jingle and also helps cut down on the connectors getting caught in/on things. Some of them even bring the tags up even with the collar.

With living in the country I have done 2 differnt things. One I have the hanging tags as that is what the Dog Lisences are so to have an ID tag like that is no big deal. I also take a sharpe and put their name and my Phone number right on their collar. That way if for some reason they loose the tag they still have ID on and if someone does not want to get close to some of my biger dogs they can read the number on the collar quite easally.

I use Boomerang Tags - Pet tags, dog tags, pet id tags, dog id tags, pet identification tags, cat id tags
They're relatively inexpensive, DEEPLY engraved so the info never wears off or becomes illegible... and they're guaranteed for the life of your pet. I have habging tags, CollarTags, plastic tags, and the brass bolt-on tags from them... all are of superior quality, they're amazing. |

We don't keep collars on our dogs. I've always been afraid of the collars/tags getting caught on something or each other with the two of them having the run of the house. Our yard is safely fenced and they are supervised for the most part when outside. Collars w/tags (and leashes) are used as soon as they get into the car. They are also microchipped.

each one of my guys has a name tag, town tag & rabies tag. However, each one sounds different as they walk down the hall so I know who is coming. I can even tell the difference when they are outside in the dark playing hide & go seek.
