Random question from a future Corgi owner

So, as we all know, Pembroke's have almost a non-existent tail. With my girlfriends dog, and other dogs, I've used their tails as a signifier of what their current mood is. For example, when we go to the dog parks, I can tell if her dog's either play-fighting or scared/startled by whether or not his tail is up or down between his legs.

Are you able to judge the same way with Pembroke's? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

I can tell what Shippo's thinking without his tail. I look more at his ears, facial expression, the way his lips are set, the way he's holding his head, whether his body is tense or loose...

He still wiggles his little stub when he's excited though lmao... like during fetch.

I can tell how Chip is feeling by the set up his ears also. For example, it was pouring the rain yesterday and we were sitting on the enclosed deck. Chip wanted to go out in the yard to play BUT it was raining. His ears were back and he had the saddest expression on his face. He looked like he had lost his bestest friend. Dale on the otherhand, likes the rain, (but Chip won't let him go out and play in it) so Dale's ears were up and he looked happy just waiting for his brother to go play.

I can't believe you didn't put on a rain coat and take them both out for a frolic in the Spring rain, Bonnie. Just think, you missed out on having two wet Corgis to dry off!!

Oh No Colcolt - My Chip would tell everyone that I beat him to within an inch of his life and better yet, look the part. If you could see his face when it is raining and he has to potty, you would know what I am talking about. If Dale, starts off the steps to go out in the rain, Chip will go get him and pull at him until he comes back up on the deck. My Chip thinks him and Dale are made out of sugar and they would both melt. Reminds me of the wicked witch in the Wizard of Oz. Chip screaming I'm melting, I'm melting.

It depends on how savvy one is at reading dog body language in general and tails can be rather deceiving IF that is all relies upon as indicator of mood. Posture, stance, ruff, ears, just to mention a few, all indicate what's going on in the mind. Pembrokes are very expressive.

Corgis are VERY expressive in their faces. Fisher doesnt move his stump or butt but you can tell his mood by his little criminal grin. Boots on the other hand will wiggle his but and jump up and down when happy. They are both very different but at the same time very expressive.

Some good tell-tale signs to watch for. (or, should that be tail-tail?)

And, I'm sure they probably would-sweet as they are!! Wouldn't won't to risk it for the sake of a 30 minute rain. I'd like to seem them interacting on a rainy day. Maybe you could do a video, Bonnie. I'm a great believer in still pics and videos.

I thought about it last night while I was watching him but I figured if I snapped one and posted it, I would get fined for animal cruelty. LOL i will try to do it the next time it rains. Corgis sure are expressionable and each one reads a little differently. Dale also likes to talk and grumble. Chip on the other hand, never grumbles.

Maybe it's the age difference...I would think it would be the other way around with Chip being older. Dale being the adolescent would naturally be the one to grumble though, now that I think about it.

What I am talking about is in the context of reading potential warning signals or play signals dogs send when relating to other dogs.
