The only breeder in my area is so slow to respond to emails

He responded to my first one in a week, and I replied asking more questions, and we're going on 3-4 weeks and he hasn't responded yet.

I guess it's time to move to the breeder in Houston, about 2 hours away

It is better that you make use of a telephone because it is instant and you can pick up on people's demeanour through personal telephone chatting that you can't through emailing. Some people are poor at responding to emails being lousy communicators, and some do not feel obliged to do so. Anyway expand your enquiries to encompass a wider circle. I got my current Corgi from a breeder in another island ( I live in New Zealand) though I could have had a multitude of choices within the island I live in.

I agree... some breeders just aren't that computer savvy. (Or maybe his is down!) If you want one who will always respond to e-mails quickly, definitely go to Houston! Just to give him the benefit of the doubt, leave a phone message saying that you are still waiting for an e-mail response and see what happens. A good breeder will be cool about telling you how they really prefer to be contacted. Either way, if you are not 100% comfortable with the exact way this breeder works, and if this breeder doesn't feel like someone you want to have a working relationship with for the life of your dog, move along. (This isn't a prerequisite for a good breeder, really, but the benefits to finding a breeder who really treats you like "part of the family" are awesome! )

I would love to give him a call, but unfortunately the only thing listed on their site is their email address

In his first email response to me, he gave me a # to a Houston breeder, so that's the only # I have right now.

Welcome to Overo Pembroke Welsh Corgis, Texas

Looks he referred you to a very good breeder.

Are you referring to my original breeder choice in Austin, or the one he referred me too? I'm getting impatient because it's been almost a month and a half, and I want to get on a waiting list as soon as possible for a litter. I don't want to miss my chance but I guess all I can do is sit and wait

By the way, it's just my luck that the Houston breeder's website has been offline for about a month now, which means she wouldn't get my emails if I emailed her because the domain doesn't resolve anymore!

http://www.pawsonjackrabbit.com/

But luckily I have a number and will probably call her this week.

The referral to Overo is what I was talking about.

I'm sorry I wasn't clear about it. Overo is the Austin breeder w/ the slow email responses (my original choice for breeder). He referred me to the Houston breeder, who's site doesn't work but I have a phone # for. I haven't called it yet because I really want to find out about Overo, but it's just a waiting game...

Latest update:

I called the breeder they referred me to in Houston, but they still have their Memorial Day voicemail message up. They were open intermittently Sunday and Monday, and resumed normal hours again Yesterday, from 7:30am-6:30pm. Their voicemail box is full. Man I can't catch a break huh... haha.

FYI this Houston breeder runs like a doggy day care/store type thing, which is the number I was given, hence the 'store operating hours'

You could try other breeders. There is a club in Houston, Home of the GHPWCF This page has a referral contact About the GHPWCF

This page from the PWCCA has an area where you can search for breeders in your area. You might try that too. PWCCA

The PWCCA is a great idea. Shippo's breeder is on there. He came from Canada though, so not local to me. >@_@<

I'm a bit leery of any breeder that operates like a store. What's that about? >O.o<

Well, the breeder themselves aren't a store, but they run a store, too. Overo, the Austin breeder, isn't registered on PWCCA, but the Houston "store" is registered with the PWCCA
