thoughts on puppy training pads

I was just wondering what the different views were for the relatively new puppy training pads. Do you recommend them? Do you use them? I've read varying opinions about these (both positive and negative) and wondered what you all thought about them.

Jeni,

I have never used them, but am interested more about how they are used.
I trained my Corgi from the time I got him at 11 weeks to go outside without
the use of newspapers or training pads, however, I am home full time. I
am assuming that these training pads would come in handy to those who
work outside the home?

We tried using them with one of our dogs and she ripped them up and thought they were a play thing. That is the only experience I had with them though so unfortunately I can't give a good story as well!

When we first got Chip, I used them in his playpen. It worked great because he couldn't hold it all night or if we were going to be gone for awhile. When he stopped needing them at night, I quit using them. He now sleeps on the bed and will wake us up if he needs to go out.
