Alice's extended stay

Into the third day of Alice, a six year old Pem two week stay while her dad amd mum are holidaying in Cairns, Australia.
Alice is very sweet and gets on well wth every one. She is overweight and so I have cut out the morning meal she is used to getting and we are into tons of long walks and runs off-leash where possible. Alice is one of those Corgis who doesn't play with toys simply because her owners have not provided her with any. But already she is into tugs of war with Taylor's ropey toy - and she does it better than Taylor because she puts up much better resistance. But things that go 'squeak' she doesn't understand. She is also prone to lying on her back when approached for cleaning, stroking etc. But I am getting her quickly out of this overly submissive action - and she is the better for it.
When my 10 year old son made too much fuss of her the first time they met, Taylor told her where she fits into our household, otherwise they have been fine in all aspects.
Today I took Alice, Taylor and 2 year old Taffy for a Pem Corgi romp through a bush track and stream for two hours and they all had so much fun - especially Taffy who just loves swimming and fooling around in the water. Got lots of comments from people who have never seen live so many good looking Corgis mixing it up and all acting very jolly and busy like Corgis do.

So nice to see you are still able to get Taffy out for a run.
Alice's Mom and Pop will come back to a new dog.

Well, two anyway, Clogs.

Taffy is also very overweight. He has loads of character and is also very, very good with people and other dogs but he is damaged as far as his owner and the owner's equally elderly neighbour (who also looks after Taffy regularly and tales him for walks). These two guys were far too rough (manhandling) with Taffy as a pup and he has bever forgotten and wont easily take either of them doing things like towelling him down or even slipping a leash over his head - whereas I have no trouble with the play and calming methods I adopt.

Alice now likes squeaky toys and loves doing the fetching thing. In the park today she regularily outpaced (despite her podgy body) the 6 month old Lab that I take out exercising several times a week, in fetching a stick I kept throwing. Her owners will indeed come back to a new Corgi. She os losing weight fast and getting into better condition. And she has taken to sleeping with Nathan's ( my son) on his bed.

It was a trio for that bush walk but only a pair for the two weeks of Alice's visit.
