Clancy

A female relative of mine is in Whittier Rehab Hospital in Haverhill Mass. That is the place to go in this area for the top quality care.
This morning I sat in on Corgi therapy. Clancy belongs to one of the P.T.s at the hospital. He comes in on Wednesday and the female fluffy, Gwendolyn is there on Friday.
The type of therapy depends on the patient. Stroking, brushing and feeding carrot chips was the main activity today.
Clancy is very calm. By the way he looks a lot like my Duchess, a red headed tri pem. I asked about frapping. Clancy does not do it, but Gwendolyn does. I am looking forward to meeting Gwen on Friday. Gwendolyn's lineage comes from Champion lines via Australia.
Have to look up the breeder of these two and add it to this post. The breeder picked the dogs especially for work as therapy dogs.

Corgis are wonderful therapy dogs. I placed my last pembroke with a gal who manages a senior assisted living facility. Gretta had done therapy work/visits with me since she was 3 mos old. Now at 5, she goes to work with her new mom every day. They walk the two blocks from home to work, she walks in the door-gets let off her lead and like a Dr, makes her rounds. Once she is done, she goes and finds Mom and curls up under her desk for the morning. Repeat the same in the afternoon. Gret has her CGC, TDI(almost has her TDIA!) works in agility from time to time and loves her new job.
I can't be happier that she has found her true calling in life and I get pictures and updates all the time.

Cindy and the crew--with four - four legged kids who have passed their TDI and do therapy work!

Greta must bring a lot of smiles to the senior citizens. Thank you for telling us about her. We could use more stories like this. How about your other dogs? You say they do therapy work too?

I am also ready for some more stories about dogs that have been rehomed or rescued. Got any more Glencorgi?

I haven't kept up on all their certifications because we don't do a lot of therapy sessions now, but will be working on that again with a program that my 4-H kids want to get started called Pet Pals. The local Hospice wants us there and there are several kids who want to get started in that now. Trying to line up a TDI test for the participants after the first of the year.

I have two collies who passed their TDI's a couple of years ago. Then our cardigan Fred was certified for a couple of years until I forgot and let it lapse. For all his antisocial issues, he loved going to the nursing homes. I am waiting for Eddie to get old enough to be tested but he's great with anyone. So the short dogs will all get their official licenses and be back at it in no time.

I do miss Gretta but she's got a wonderful new mom and a wonderful new job so that's the way it should be. She has made a gentleman smile who was reluctant to do anything and he so looks forward to her visits. Amazing what that little brat can do.

I do have a rescue that was placed with a couple of Angels. Jack is a blind BHT and quite the character. When they visited a few weeks ago, they are taking him to a few places now. He won't ever be able to get his TDI but he does what he can. I also have a noncorgi rescue-- a collie-who is working as a service dog in MN now.

Susan Hriczo, who owns Clancy and Gwendolyn uses them as therapy dogs at Whittier Rehab hospital in Haverhill, Mass. After copying this thread I gave it to her to read and she in turn copied a major article she had submitted to the Corgi Cryer for the Winter 2006 issue. ( This piece was very good and was entered into a competition)
In the article she gives the breeder of her dogs as, Dianne Connolly of Llandian Kennel in Hancock N.H., who says she especially breeds her dogs for temperment. Temperment is her #1 criterion, because most of her corgis become pets.
It gave me a lot of pleasure to read the pages she had copied and I am now interested enough to subscribe to the periodical.

Taylor will be visiting patients at one of NZ's largest hospitals (Hutt Hospital) within the next few days. They will arrange a wheelchair for him to meet patients who can't get out of bed.

I took Alice with me and Taylor twice to the Heretaunga Retirement Village and Alice was a big hit. She acted like a pro.

She breeds lovely corgis. I am familiar with them in the show ring as well.

I think you will enjoy the Corgi Cryer a lot. It is a good "magazine."
