Corgis and toys
Just a curiosity for those with multiple corgis or just multiple dogs. Has any one else noticed that even though you may have a toy basket filled with toys that one toy seems to be the hot toy. example, we have several nylabones for my corgis to chew on, but no matter what they want the same one, and the moment that one has the toy the other will spend the time obsessing over the toy the other has. for the most part i find it cute but some times i just wanna go "come on guys, we have more than one of those you don't need the same one." Just wanted to know if this was unique to my corgis.

My two do it with balls. They have several all the same color but both of them want the same one so I have got so I toss three or four at once and that gets them going in all sorts of directions. Chip will hold one in his mouth and bat a second one with his front paws. Too funny.

It is a dog thing mainly to want the same thing. Perhaps there is the element of most recent scent on the toy and since it is in the possession of the other dog that is the one with the most recent scent to playfight over, perhaps the idea of playing with THAT actual toy or object is planted into the mind of the unpossessed dog through the other dog grabbing hold of it. Then there is no direct interaction if both dogs have different toys. Then we must remember that Corgi adults generally have the equivalent mind/brain of a seven year old child - and guess what children aged 7 and under do most often - follow the leader among other children.

I must have 15 or so nylabones in the house, along with real knuckle bones, stuffed toys or destuffed and desqueaked and yes, they always want what the other one has.
I even have one girl who hoards them under the cushion in the large dog bed. If you can't find something, go there and that's where you will find it. I also find that if I get a box of bones, I throw out in the yard, more then the number of dogs in the yard. So if there are 5 corgis, I throw out 7 or 8 bones. Right now it's not toys they are arguing over--it's the over ripe tomatos that I am giving them. Cindy and the crew |

Mine are no different ... Molsen will have a toy and Miller will watch and wait for Molsen to move away from it ... Then the toy is his. He also likes taking to toy out of Molsen's paws and runs away hoping Molsen will chase. Molsen however does not chase ... so Miller gets bored and sets down the toy. Then Molsen picks it up again and we start over ...

Kevin and Riley don't do it all the time, but Riley has been known to take a toy that Kevin was just playing with and haul it outside via the dog door. Very few toys make the trip back inside without human assistance.

Duncan feels he has to take a toy out everytime he goes outside. I'm working on get your toy ( I don't care which one, just get a toy) and tell him to take it in. He's doing pretty good. Sometimes I have to pick one up and say take it in. Now, if I can only get him to take it back to his toy box. He's like a typical little boy, carries it in the door for about 5 steps and drops it on the floor. So, I end of with a pile of toys strung to the to back door.
