Corgis coat not soft as other breeds?

I found my corgi coat not soft enough.

I know that depends on many things. I gave him quality meat, changed few types of shampoo and conditioner and also tried few types of fish oils.

Are you guys corgi's coat soft ?

Many Pem Corgis do not have soft coats. Short coats can be quite harsh The softer coats are on the long haired Corgis. Quality shampoo helps as does natural rain water. Daily grooming is a must. A complete and balanced daily diet is best for a Corgi's skin and coat. Allergies, fleas, ticks, worms etc contribute towards a health of a Corgi's coat and skin. Salt water is very unhelpful.

I don't think soft coats are even something the Pem breed is known for. Mine has a kind of wiry coat. Not too harsh, but not too soft either. My Cardigan/Bassett Hound mutt has a Cardigan coat - kind of wiry on top and soft underside. (and he sheds like a Cardigan also - my goodness does he ever shed!)

Depends on the dog

My Oliver has a soft, silky relatively long coat. My brother's corgi has a short wiry coat. It just depends on the dog.

My new puppy is fuzzy so I'm not sure how he'll be yet.

From the AKC Breed Standard Guide
Quote:
Coat
Medium length; short, thick, weather- resistant undercoat with a coarser, longer outer coat. Over-all length varies, with slightly thicker and longer ruff around the neck, chest and on the shoulders. The body coat lies flat. Hair is slightly longer on back of forelegs and underparts and somewhat fuller and longer on rear of hindquarters. The coat is preferably straight, but some waviness is permitted. This breed has a shedding coat, and seasonal lack of undercoat should not be too severely penalized, providing the hair is glossy, healthy and well groomed. A wiry, tightly marcelled coat is very faulty, as is an overly short, smooth and thin coat. Very Serious Fault--Fluffies--a coat of extreme length with exaggerated feathering on ears, chest, legs and feet, underparts and hindquarters. Trimming such a coat does not make it any more acceptable. The Corgi should be shown in its natural condition, with no trimming permitted except to tidy the feet, and, if desired, remove the whiskers.

Shippo has very soft fur, but he is a fluffy. I didn't think a regular corgi had a very soft coat.

As has been pointed out corgis are not supposed to have "soft" coats. A soft coat is leaning towards, if not being a fault. They are wash and go dogs. A correct corgi coat can get mud caked on it and when it dries, the mud will come right off, sometimes not even needing a brushing to do so. Now the undercoat can be downy soft, but the outer coat should be able to withstand elements and still come out "clean."

I would describe Taylor's coat as Emma has hers. Soft in most places, and silky. Soft as in Corgi long coat soft -not Sheltie soft.

Thanks all.

I think i cant expect my corgi's coat as soft as other breed. eg golden retriever.

Recently when i feed him meat, i didnt trim out the fat, because i think my corgi lack of Omega 6, if feed commerical dog food, Omega 6 is enough.

Good thinking, a corgi isn't a golden retriever and shouldn't have a coat like one; that would be incorrect.

Corgis coats can vary considerably. Alice has a short coat with a wavy, course area from just below her neckline through to half way down her back but the rest of her is very fine hair which actually is softer than my Taylor's.

Sophie's is soft, but she is still a puppy and is still growing an adult coat.

That's one of the reasons Corgi puppies are so precious and important for owners to enjoy their Corgi's puppyhood.
