That's what I love about New Zealand--it has just about any kind of terrain you like and climate. And the best part--no snakes!!!

Linda (who longs to someday visit NZ but it's so far away)

Well, I believe there is only one kind of poisonous snake in Michigan - and only in the southern counties. We do have some other snakes, not too scary, however. Now as far as climate goes...well, that DOES leave something to be desired. If New Zealand looks anything like what we saw in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy movies...oh my! I would love to visit there, too!! It looks like heaven on earth - and NO SNAKES whatsoever??? How about porcupines?...a friend just spent $150 for quill removal and antibiotics - OUCH!

Northeast Tennessee has alot of different kinds of snakes but I have never seen any other than by the Holston Lake up in the mountains and that is few and far between.

We are not known for having poisonous snakes in Massachusetts, not many people are aware of the timber rattlers here. In my many years I have seen only two. We also have some very large snakes that are the harmless variety. If I tried to tell about how big I have seen them many wouldn't believe me. They actually can go six feet or more. A lot of my childhood was spent in the woods and fields, so I have had occasion to run across snakes that startled me but I am one who loves and respects wildlife. I have been priviledged to have these experiences.

There are no (land) snakes in NZ but we do have eels which are afterall snakes in the water. Bt our eels are pretty harmless to humans and canines. Some of our coastal seawaters have Congo eels - these are big, fat fellows but they don't pose a problem to people except they compete with us for catching fish.
NZ doesn't really have any dangerous animals. We have a spider (Katipo) that has a nasty bite -but only when they are attacked or cornered - and they are rarely found found in urban areas.
We don't have porcupine or skunks - just hedgehogs. Our SPCA will look after any sick hedgehogs. I found some babies once in my property and I got the SPCA tp come round and pick them up so they could give them proper feeding and nurse them through their baby stages.
By the way, most snake species are harmless just like most shark species are not human killers. There are lots of snakes in Australia.

Any Go Corgi members who wants to visit NZ -let me know and I certainly will arrange something. I'd just love to see ya.

Chloe-Louise - I make the same useage of the plastic bag my daily newspaper comes in. Well done.

I am so glad that stringent leash laws do not exist where I live. I did take Taylor to watch my nine year old son play rugby at Frazer Park this morning and Taylor was off lead before the game started and after it had finished and at one stage he was heading for a dreaded Pit Bull Terrier who was, thankfully, on a leash and tightly held between his owner's legs. JUdging by his mannerisms and his horrid high piched barking, the Pit Bull wanted to eat Taylor. But I called Taylor away and the Corgi changed direction. I've got nothing to praise Americans about in regard to Pit Bulls.

Linda - I'd flout the No Dogs things at your new park and use some discretion on when to exercise your Corgi there, and use it until you lose it ie until some official barks instructions at you.
