Help! Sable or red and white?
Waeryn was very dark before we got her, but the breeder said that all the black would go away and she would be red and white. The first picture I've posted is her at 4 weeks when she was very very dark, but the next 3 pictures are between 8-9 weeks and she looks much lighter. The last picture is her today at 9.5 weeks old and she looks darker than she did last week, but still lighter than the first picture. Do you guys think she's going to be sable? Her back right there is the only place that she has black hairs like that. The reason I'm asking is because the breeder got the registration form in yesterday and is going to send it to me. I'm wondering if I should bother her with this and tell her that Waeryn should be put down as sable, or if you guys think that she's more likely to be red and white.
Whitney PS. In the third picture she has a little bit of water on her back, so that's why it looks like that. |

Well, ever since I knew I wanted a Corgi, I have wanted my first girl to be a red and white (next I'm thinking that I'll want a BHT male), and it seemed like a big deal, but after getting Waeryn I was so in love with her that it didn't seem to matter much anymore. I am glad that she will be red and white though! How can you tell that she will be red and white? I'm curious about that. I have seen some puppies for sale advertised as "sable" but they seemed to have less black than Waeryn does.

Charlie's papers have him listed as sable/white, and he had similar colors to Waeryn until about 14-15 weeks. He has lost all the black tips on his body now. Right now his head and tail are sable, and his body is red and white. I guess he'll stay that way, but I'm not sure what to call him. LOL I'm going with red and white.
His mom is a sable/white and his dad is a black headed tri. Amazing how much their color can change!

Waeryn has a cute cheeky expression. Is she?
It seems to me that, typically, her black or dark bits are going to fade away to be redden hairs at their tips. Taylor has a black head underneath his red tips. At present, because of the summer in New Zealand and him being outside most of the day, his red parts of his coat are fading into what you Americans would call fawn. Jabba had quite a bit of black on his back up until a few weeks ago, and he's about 14 weeks. His registration form listed him as red and white, so I thought it would probably go away. I had a tri-color collie/lab mix whose back was all black as a puppy but later developed a splotch of brown on her back, so I knew that colors can change. Either way, she is very cute!

Thanks! Jabba is super cute too. I like his name. The whole "Jabba the Mutt" idea was kinda cute and funny, but I wouldn't want my puppy to have the word "mutt" in her name either. My cat is named "Tucker," but my bf's dad loves to call him "Tucker Little F***er." Which I find amusing most of the time because he actually loves my cat. |

Yes, we're working very hard with her, especially with the nipping issue. I am seeing improvements daily. Yesterday she was biting on my hand a little bit so I said "no bite!" she let go immediately, but then opened her mouth again and slowly came towards my hand, watching me for a reaction, testing me I think. I stared at her, trying to look stern, but left my hand exactly where it was and she pulled back and closed her mouth. Today she was biting on my hand again, so I said "no bite" and she immediately stoped. I moved my hand in front of her face, petting her head and cheeks, and she just rested her head on my hand, not even opening her mouth or anything.

She is being a little too rough about it so I want her to learn the "no bite" command so she knows when we have had enough. Also, I plan on having children in a few years and I want her to get used to kids so I let my two cousins (7 and 10 years old) play with her a lot, so I want her to listen to me when I say "no bite."

Instead of not allowing her to 'bite' why not change the exclamation to that of ouch' - but only if she grabs too hard. That way she can happily grab a hand for play or for 'asking' for hand petting/scratching and yet gain an understanding of how far she can go.
