Help With Crate Sizes - 12-09-2007, 05:49 PM

I bought this crate the other day at PetCo, it says it's for dogs up to 25lbs, but once I got home and set it up I have serious doubts that she is going to fit comfortably in it when she's fully grown.

Precision Pet ProValu Dog Crate
For Dogs Up To 25 lbs. - 24"L x 18"W x 19"H

The next size up is for dogs up to 70lbs and that seems like too much, but it does come with a divider that I can use until she gets bigger does it seem like this one would be a good size for a full grown corgi? Also, I found this crate and the one I bought at Petco for much cheaper online.

The 200 size vari kennel (medium) is 27L x 20W x 19H. So 24" might be a little short.

The 300 size vari kennel (intermediate) is 32L x 22W x 23H. Some of my longer dogs use this size.

If you're going to shop on line, you can find darn near any size you want. Any style, etc.

I agree with Peggy...24" is a little short. Charlie (at 5 1/2 months old) has been sleeping in the "cat" kennel which is a Vari Kennel Jr, Intermediate. It is 24". Charlie is now 24" with his back feet tucked under him...so he fills the whole length and can't stretch his back legs out behind him.

I looking at 32" or 36" for a replacement.

200 vari's for the puppies until they are about 3 mos old, then we go up to a 300 or at least a 30" wire crate. Depends on the size and length of the puppy. I have some 24" crates but only use those now for my daughter's Brussels Griffons. Most of my cardigans are in 36" crates, the same size that my smooth collies are in. Granted many of my dogs will curl up in a corner but most will spread out as far as they can, usually ending up on their backs with their feet stuck in the sides of the kennel to keep themselves from rolling over-very cute to see.
