I am really glad to hear a part of Taffy's training is going to include some "training" his owner too. I've wondered how the training places that take the dog out of the home and return it with the promise of it being a well-trained dog succeed as so much of training is the people end. A problem behavior or manners might be corrected in the new setting, but IF the dog is allowed to go back and do as it always does in the home setting, nothing will have changed. I have faith in Michael's powers of persuasion in regards to Jack, the owner though.

Good luck and I suspect Taffy will be a very quick study.

Michael,

hopefully you can help both Jack and his puppy out. Obviously Jack has
gone through a lot with losing his daughter and then the Pem he inherted
from her.

I haven't had a puppy in 20 years, and Cody is nowhere like my Betsy that
passed away ,and I would not dream of hitting or kicking him- ever! people
that do those things to dogs have anger management problems and you can
say it is because the dog does not act the way his 3 year old pem did,
but I bet if Taffy turned his behavior around, Jack, would still at times, turn his frustrations regarding other things on the dog - I've seen this happen with hot headed people whose dogs really have done nothing wrong, but just happen to be the "punching bag" for people to take their anger out on. People like this often get angry at their animals for not behaving(they expect them to be born with good manners) and then hit, kick and scream at the dog for not doing what they want, although they have never taken the time to teach them correctly

I hope you can help those two.

Thanks Debbie and Linda and all the others. It's been a few days now since my offer - and it's not been taken up. The more time goes by, the worse it will get I fear. But I think Jack might be making plans to go away for a holiday and take advantage of my services in that way.
New Zealanders like killing two birds with one stone.
In the meantime one of my agility tutors (Paul) who lives close by to me has just acquired a seven week old male Border Collie - as cute and lovely as can be and not as thrustful as most Borders are - and Taylor and I are going to play dads with him daily for an hour and give him one of his meals. He's all set down to become an agility champion and Paul has called him Comet which is connected to his pedigree name. Comet is not your usual black and white Border - he's brown and white and the brown is a very light fawn color. Paul would have preferred a female - because they are better performed at agility than are males - but he already has a five year old female Border who is a rescued dog. And as you know there is a possibility that two females might not co-exist too well. THis Border named, Jade was used as a punching/kicking bag by her original owners for what reason - only the devil knows. For she is a very obliging, sweet and pretty girl and though her mental state has been permanently damaged she is slowly coming out of her shell and not clinging to Paul as much as she once was.
