Self Punishing? - 01-19-2008, 12:46 AM

Does anyone elses' Corgi sort of self punish themself? When I say "no" Waeryn will lay down and look up at me really guiltily. She'll usually stay laying down for a while too. Also, if she does something that she KNOWS I dont like, sometimes she'll just run up and lay down at my feet before I even tell her "no."

When Westin knows he's been bad and that we are angry, he'll go lay in a corner and not look at us until he thinks it is OK to come out; like he feels bad that he did something he wasn't supposed to.

She's not punishing herself she's responding to the tone of your voice or your body language.

Same with Westin. Dogs are so much more intuitive and sensitive body language and tone than we humans are. They don't "know" they've been "bad", just that you aren't pleased.

When Duncan was little, he manage to get a hold of a pair of my shoes and chewed the dickens out of them while I was out grocery shopping one day. When I walked in, I just picked up the shoe and looked at him, and he just cringed and hid behind my husband. I didn't have to say a word. I thought that putting them on my cedar chest was high enough and out of his way...but just like a child that has started walking, it seems their arms become 10 feet long and they can reach things you never thought possible.

*~* Sister Protector ? - 01-20-2008, 08:56 PM

*~* I have 2 sister two year old Pembroke Corgis.
Their names are: Midnight & Sunshine

Pretty much every time that I have to raise my voice to one of my girls...the sister protector will come over and raise their voice AT ME ! It is a little bark or a knudge on my legs to let me know that the sister will defend or protect the other one.

Does anyone else have 2 or 3 from the same litter that acts the same way ?

" A Pembroke Corgi" : "When we are born...our ears are down...our tails are docked & we wear no frown. As we mature...the ears come up...our personality develops...no more a pup. When we chew our bone...the legs come out...and the "Flying Squirrel" lies alone. A corgi is a wonderful breed...much LOVE from owner to Canine...is received."

Doesn't have to be litter mates, two that are really bonded to each other can respond in the same way. They are more bonded to each other than to humans and to a degree it is the equivalent of the "defender" flipping you the bird, not really respecting you as leader.

Sure he cares, you yell, he gets away from where you are. Removing himself from someone who's upset with him.

Like people, dogs have different ways of dealing with corrections, people who are mad at them etc.
