Nick's official name is King Creole. His breeder wanted his litter to be named with an Elvis Presely theme. I guess if doesn't bother you Lady Waeryn can have two names. As for Lord and lady names there is always Sir Charles ... after the Prince of Wales himself!

As far as the kennel name, not including it the breeder's kennel in the name, well, don't you feel some sense of pride in where you got your dog from and wouldn't you want to let people know right off the bat where she came from? Yes she is yours, no doubt about that, but not acknowledging the person who let her come into this world.....I think that's what Debbie was trying to say.
Exactly Cindy! The kennel name doesn't reflect where the dog is now, but where they came from.

Or another thing they'll do (or did do) is put a number on the end. So you could end up with Sir Charles XXIV. I wonder what number they are up to with Ein's today for corgis?

Well, since I don't know where my puppies are going before I name them I don't ask anyone, I go with themes that I like or have some meaning to me.

I have a "British" themed litter, born on Boxing Day and mom was born in England, I have a "British Inavasion" litter with names from that song era. My last litter has a "money" theme because it was the most expensive litter I've ever bred yet. (Long story there.)

As for thinking up names, I've been collecting name ideas for years.

I see it as on topic too. We're discussing the nameing of dogs. I didn't know it was just for naming a particular dog.

And from my experince, almost every topic grows or changes a bit. It happens on every list or forum I'm on. If not a discussion would not go far and most threds would end quite quickly.

Anyway, on to the naming of dogs....

The kennel names of all the Corgis I have owned are just a passing interest and a way of associating my Corgi with others - such as siblings, parents, grandparents, great grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins etc. The meaning of them (the kennel names) is of little moment. Taylor's is Merthyr More Likely bit he could have been Merthyr You Are A Prized Purple People Eater for all I care.

I have a certificate for registration certificate that indicates Bubba's sire which is "Midnight Flag" with a long AKC DNA and DL number and the dam, which is "Autumn Yellow Pansy" with another long number and the breeders name. Also included in the packet I got when I got Bubba were papers of "Certified Pedigree" that go way back and how far I haven't determined yet. Bubba's name is registered as Kelly's Bubba Chubs. Hence, his name.

I wonder how far the bloodlines trickle down since the AKC always lists at least three sets of parents.

David - I kept with our breeders theme as my boys registered names are Bonnie's Lil Chip & Bonnie's Lil Dale. Being the owner's first name with their call name. Now Taffy Too Little - I haven't a clue what to register her as.

Hmmmm...I haven't a clue how to help, Bonnie. Maybe some suggestions will be forthcoming. I was looking at some of the dates on Flag's pedigree papers and there's a host of names on it that go all the way back to 1988 but, I don't have a clue as to who they were. Pansy's goes back to '82.

Bonnie, one time , i actually sat down for a day, with the computer, my dogs 5 generation pedegree from the breeder and traced back pretty far - i got a few dead ends but kept going with certain champions in the lines until i had gone back 10 generations! i was so fun for me, the best was later finding photos on line of some of Dillon's distant great grandparents.

Dillon's registered name is "XIII MAPLES Late Knight Lover"

I did the same thing for Gus and got 7 generations back before i finally hit some dead ends.

Just weighing in, not that it matters, but i agree with debbie and peggy on honoring the name of the breeder that brought your dog into this world by using their kennel name... I think it is a matter of pride... I chose my breeder carefully and am proud that i have one of her dogs.

Emilie

It is fun. I have been doing that and it is so interesting. It's amazing how the dogs move from state to state.

Stud books go back to when the breed was first accepted by the AKC and will predate that a bit. Five generation pedigrees are also available for a fee. If you want to go back further, then you can order five generation pedigrees for each of the dogs listed in the fifth generation and so on and so on. A lot of Breeders have extensive pedigree databases and can go way back.

Why not Bonnie's Taffy Too Little?

For anyone who might be interested, a translation:

His AKC registered name.

Thank you so much Debbie. I don't know what this board would do without your perceived knowledge. You really give me a case of gastric upset. Maybe you can translate that too since were all so dumb around here. You're the very reason no one ever took the trouble to teach a mule how to talk. Translate that one while you're at it. Or, maybe you can already figure it out.

So much for Bonnie's first suggestion on making a good forum:
"1. Post to threads in the manner you would want people to post to your thread"
