My Punkin has come back... - 02-05-2008, 10:52 AM

I have been asked how the introduction of Fergie has gone. A story first though...

I have a soft spot for orange cats. When Linda and I got married, my orange cat, Pete, stayed behind with my mother so I did not have one.

For Father's Day 1999 by step daughter got me an orange cat from the local humane society. She came with the name Carrot but we named here Punkin.

She was a terror at first but became on of most affectate cats we've ever had. She slept with us cuddling up under the covers every night. She became best friends with our other cats at the time and us.

Regrettably she crossed over the Bridge way too early in the fall of 2002.

Well my Punkin has come back in the form of a Corgi named Fergie.

This introduction has much better than we have ever expected. It hard believe that she has only been with us for two weeks - It's like she had been with us forever. Like Punkin - she is very sweet.

Her and Byron have bonded much better than expected - no major problems.

We have taken her to the local beaches where she has interacted with everyone she meets quite well (dogs, adults, and children). She wants to say hello to everyone she sees. She has incredible herding instincts. It's actually tough to get her off the beach. She also loves to go for rides - hanging out of the window more than Byron.

She loves to be on the couch with us - try fitting 2 Corgi's and 2 Humans on a Love-seat.

The first night we had her she slept in a crate. The second night when we went to bed she when right into the crate and laid down. I took her out of the crate and let her come to bed with us. She cuddle up next to me and went to sleep - that has happened every night since with Byron at the end of the bed.

Can't ask for anything better than that....

That's a heartwarming story! I'm so happy Fergie is a wonderful pup and fitting in so well with your family. I have wondered why Corgis are "red" and tabby cats are "orange" when they look the same color to me. Oh well, here's a toast to orange cats and red dogs! (Tri-colored Corgis and other colored cats may participate too!)

Thanks for your story Pat. Did you already say what her past was? How she became available?
From my own experience, adopting a mature dog is so much less work. Especially a well trained animal.
Cris, your pictures of the cats and Charlie are a good example of red dogs and orange cats.
