Sounds more like environmental reaction. The Missing Link or some of the other ones I mentioned wouldn't hurt to help build up his immune system. Part of it could be a puppyhood stage and he'll outgrow it.

Debbie,

So now that Cody is nearing 6 1/2 months, should I switch him to adult food?

I was at the pet store today and saw this food "INNOVA(evolutionary diet)
which stated it was Hi protein, lo carb and had no grains, but had turkey,
chicken, eggs, apples, carrots and tomatoes; however, the protein was at
42%(seemed very high)

Cody was in for neutering today(and things went fine) he had the testicle
that did not descend), so the vet had to made a bit larger incision as he
said - about 2", but that "it was just stuck up inside of him"

Anyway, what I wanted to say was that I was happy to see that his weight
gain has really slowed down. He had gained 3 pounds from the time he was
5 months to almost 6 months, but today he was weighed and it has been
3 weeks since his last weigh in, and he only gained 3 ounces. So at
6 1/2 months, he weighs 23 pounds 3 ounces.

He is nearing the end of his puppy food, so should I now switch him to adult
food and should he go to two meals a day or stay at 3?

If he were mine , I'd switch him to adult food and go to two meals a day.

Innova was the one food my dogs just didn't do well on - too rich or something, and they had very soft stools when I tried it. The Evo is a newer line than when I gave it a try, but that protein level would give me concern. I'm not sure what niche would require that high a protein level. I don't like to go over 28% and will, like I said, try to stay under that. I do know corgi owners who feed it and there dogs do great. It also gets good reviews in the Whole Dog Journal.

Canidae, California Natural, Wellness (what I'm feeding my dogs now) are all top brands. Nutro makes an excellent line of foods - the Ultra one of our foster homes feeds and the dogs there are doing super on it. There's just so many good ones around now - Chicken Soup, Merrick, Eagle Pack, Premium Edge - it can really get overwhelming with all the selections today.

Weight sounds real good for his age and well, he's got those feet and ears to grow into.

Glad his neuter went smoothly and the vet didn't have to do a lot of fishing for that "lost" jewel. An extra hug for him tonight for being "sick."

Innova Evo isnt recomended for puppies, Like Debbie said too high protein levels.
I actually e-mailed Solid Gold and Eagle Pack several months ago and they both recomended large beed puppy formula or adult food for the corgi puppies, as they considered large breed.

it's strange that he would itch after falling into a pond chloe fell into are pond when she was a little younger but she never got eritation from it or itches
i was at petsmart for chloe's puppy class and i saw a special itch shampoo
and i bought shampoo for smell and softness and it really worked so i think it might work for you

Thank you for that info. The next time I am in Petsmart, I will buy a bottle and try it. I will let you know how it works. Chip hasn't itched all day today. It has been sunny and no rain.

That Cody,

I brought him home and turned my back for a moment and up on the sofa
he went. UGH! I put the Onesee on - a size 3 toddler and it barely fits - they
gave me the cone collar, but I hate those and he won't be able to sleep in his
crate with that, so I will work with the t-Shirt. He has been trying to lick his
incision like crazy - so the T-shirt works well in covering it, but like I said, it
is stretched.

I can sew and I am gong to have to invent a spay/neuter outfit for long bodied dogs with short legs - i have several ideas in mind that would work -
honestly, we need something like that

When he is out of his crate I have to keep him on a leash by me or he wants
to go right for the sofa to jump on - should be a fun week ahead.

P.S. I asked my vet if I should switch him to adult food and he said at 8 months. I do feed Cody the Nutro now.

Thanks for the sentiments regarding Cody.

Probably not the place to put this in regards to cody's neutering, but the
instructions say to keep his incision clean and dry for 2 weeks. Wouldn't you
know that it has been raining like crazy all day and rain is expected all week.

So every time we go out to potty he comes in with a very wet underside.
He was rather frisky after his neutering and wanted me to toss him a ball to
chase, but I didn't.

Hi Linda:

You are going to be frazzled but hang in there. These pups worry us much like children do. On the bright side, Cody must be feeling good and they heal quick. Hopefully, he will calm down for you and it will stop raining. I will pray for you and Cody.

On the onesies, try a size 4 toddler. I know that size has been used in the little undershirts and tank tops to a bases to make costumes and I think even been used for girls in season.

Murphy's Law - as soon as you need to keep a corgi's incision clean and dry; you get the first rain you've had in ages.

Don't get too frazzled by trying to keep him "down." No strenuous type play, but walks are fine. If you have a Kong toy, try keeping it filled for him to play and work on getting the goodies out. Another "quieter" type game is to hide pieces of his kibble and/or treats around the house and let him search them out.

Pulling for you!

Debbie,

I looked for size 4T onesies, with no luck - just regular T-shirts at that size,
however, in my neuter thread, I did put that I bought Huggies Little Swimmers
and they fit well, have a stretchy, but snug fit in the waist and do not bind,
and he does not seem to mind them on - so we shall see.

Yes, it is my week for rain

I do have a kong and he does enjoy that - however, if I hide treats by themselves around the house, my 3 cats will have snatched those up before
Cody will ever get to them - ha

Linda:

They say a picture says a 1000 words - would love to see Cody in the swimmers. I may try those on Chip when it is his time.

Thanks for a great idea.

Yes, they are cute and I wish I could post a picture,

Our digital camera is broke and we are getting a new one, but haven't
gotten to that yet - then I will be able to post a picture of Cody.
