Runs in circles or pattern - 02-12-2008, 08:08 PM

I have a Cardigan, I think. I was trying to find my cardigan that was stolen over two years ago and ended up with Sadie. I responded to a found dog ad in the newspaper, it wasn't my Emma, but no one claimed the lost Corgi, so I welcomed her to my home. She was extremely shy, unlike Emma, but the first thing she did when she came out of her shell, was to run in circular-like patterns. She still does this when we are playing and I was wondering if this is a breed characteristic. Both of my Cardigans have been rescues. Emma, the first one found me and then I found Sadie. I love both of them and still search for Emma. Any training and info on corgis will be appreciated. I will post pictures later.

Shippo runs circles around me during games of fetch, in anticipation of my throwing the ball/toy... I think it must be a breed trait as well, maybe for both breeds?

My Pem, Taylor for the last two years goes into tight circling as his dinner is brought up the stairs to be placed for him in the kitchen. It is a form of excitement, anticipation.

My Cardi runs in circles and long elliptical patterns when he is excited. It is really weird because when he starts it is as if he can't stop. He looks so focused and you can't calm him down! It usually lasts for about 1 or 2 minutes. By the time he is done the apartment is a mess!

I attribute this behavior to pure corgi craziness and joy!

If we're talking about a good ol' Corgi FRAP, Charlie does it at least once a day at home. Also at the dog park or visiting with the neighbors' dogs, he has to show off just how speedy he is with a turbo frap!

Our Eddie is the only one really that circles. On the way to the door he spins and bounces, almost like he's chasing his tail. The rest of the crew does the typical frap runs around the house.

Now I am told that Eddie's behavior is almost identical to his sire's- including his bark, bouncing and lots of other quirks.

Westin does laps around the house, weaving his way around furniture and under tables, and he chases his tail.... but rarely do we get a defined circle in a small area.

Tuck does FRAP patterns when he gets fired up, usually after playing with my husband. He will just take off and run patterns over and over through the house! It's interesting because he will choose a particular pattern like running from the back of the house to the front, around a recliner, right turn into my daughters bedroom loop back out to the back of the house , back to the front, around the recliner and run it again, over and over!!
Tucker's mom, Abby, who is 5, has no interest in frapping. She will play gently with him and dance around when she is feeling playful but with humans, she is very submissive and sweet, sometimes overly submissive and will often dart off if you move quickly or yell. I suspect there is something to that from her previous life but have no idea what.
One good thing about having her here, is that Tuck (who has a very confident, strong, often boisterous (sp?) personality)can be a real handful at times. Although she is very tolerant and kind to him, she does not hesitate to growl/discipline him if he totally crosses the line of respect for her and he will immediately back down.
The FRAP patterns kill me!!
