You need to be researching adult foods, at six months it is time to look to switching them over to that.

IF what you are feeding is working for them and you are contemplating switching them over to adult food in the next couple of months or so, then I wouldn't be trying out new puppy foods now. From what you've shared you are creating picky eaters and switching, yet again, would only contribute to that developing problem. I stand by my original suggestion, if you want to do some research on foods, then adult lines would be the ones to look at.

well what i am feeding them now is not working that is why i want to change it. they did not like the first foods i wanted to feed them and then they finally like the food i am feeding them but i didnt look at the ingrediants when i bought it and when i did it was all junk, it was the good life recipe. so i am still trying to find a food they like and is healthy. and i took out lunch now so they are really looking foward to meals now. eating whatever i put infront of them. and isnt some puppies food good until 1 year?

When I got my first corgi in 1980 the breeder told me to switch to an adult food between 4 and 6 mos. old.

The commercials say "for a full year" but in reality they don't need it for a whole year. And from what I've learned over the years they don't need it at all IF you're feeding a good (preimum) adult food. My last two litters never had any puppy forumla food. I just feed my puppies what my adult dogs get. (An "approved" all life stages food.)

Of the foods you listed, I'd choose the Royal Canin first.

I also recommend Innova, California Natural and Eagle Pack.

Without starting the "war" again, there are Breeders (ethical, responsible, quality BREEDERS) who do not use puppy food at all; others may use puppy food to wean and once weaned the puppies go on adult formula, others may feed a puppy food up to around 4-6 months and switch to adult food. Owners who have done a lot of research and reading lean towards the switching earlier school of thought. Many people do leave their puppies on puppy formula until a year.

Puppy foods are "hot" foods - high in protein which promotes fast growth. Corgis being a true dwarf breed have more in common with large breeds in as far as bone substance and growing goes than they do with toy breeds. In large breeds they prefer slower, steady growth because it lessens the risks of such things as panosteitis. Pano can and does effect corgis and more than one case has been resolved once the puppy was taken off puppy formula food.

Now, I'm sure a certain party will respond and say everything I said is hogwash, that's his opinion and he's welcome to it. My opinion is based on experience, reading, conversations with other corgi Breeders and owners as well as Breeders in other breeds, and input from Breeder vets.

The best food to feed your puppy (or dog) is the one that works for you and your animals. I looked up the brand you are feeding and I wouldn't particularly care for the ingredient list either; it reminds me of some of the Science Diet formulas ingredient list. I'm not a fan of Science Diet foods either, a brand which comes highly promoted by another forum member.

This is my opinion and what has proven to work for me.

I am feeding all of mine Canidae. Taffy will be 5 months old on the 28th but she has never liked the puppy food and her and Dale swapped dishes and he was putting on too much weight. Chip put on too much weight with the Eagle Pack Holistic so I had to switch them off that and when I fed mine Iams, two started eating dirt so I won't feed that either. I don't care much for the Science Diet as it has fillers in it also. Just my opinion. Mine are all doing well on the Canidae.

Westin has been on Canidae since he was 8 weeks and we got him from his breeder (who had been feeding him Royal Canine or some such thing) we've been feeding him 1.5 cups daily (.5 cups, three times a day) since that time and he seems to be doing ok with it. We tried to switch him to Wellness formula once but he ended up being allergic and I'm scared to switch him again. ((Westin turned 6 months today! and he seems to be doing very well with the Canidae, maybe you should look into that. It is an "all-stages" formula so it would probably be ok for your puppies to start on that as they grow into adulthood!)) just an opinion, since you don't want them on a strictly adult food yet.

I'd switch them to an "All Life Stages Formula" now, (slowly add the new food over a weeks time) since you don't care for what they are currently eating and then stick with the new food that works for them. Here are some links for you to check out.

I might as well join in too...when I feed dry, I feed Dick Van Pattens Natural Balance small bites duck and potato. It's a puppies to adult food. So you wouldn't have to change it. They have other flavors. The duck and potato is a one protien one carb kind and it's a bit spendy. I believe they are all puppy to adult. I took mine off puppy food right away too. They LOVE this food. Of course Katie would eat anything. LOL

All stages dog food is not even recommended for normal puppies ahead of the food designated as puppy food by the producers who produce both types - at least this was so with the only two companies I consulted with. Also, the Massey University canine nutritionist I consulted and a couple of vets I most frequently deal with with a pletoria of matters, confirmed that puppy food is much preferable to all stages food for puppies. International Corgi breeders I have spoken with on the subject (two in New Zealand, one in Australia and one in Canada) all seem to think that (normal) Corgis require puppy food of a normal type and strength of calcuim, proteins etc etc as found in AAFCO-approved super premium dry dog food and usually given until the puppy passes the 12 month mark. I have previously outlined more fully the items that puppy food contains in particular food brands that are either not in the all stages diets or to a lesser degree.
