Exclamation MAINE RABIES LAW -- Update!! - 02-28-2008, 02:34 AM

Greetings All!

Yesterday (2/27), I attended the Maine Agriculture Committee's work session on Section 7 of LD 2171, the proposed legislation which would have amended the Animal Welfare law to require that puppies be vaccinated against rabies at 3 months instead of at 6 months as the law currently stands.

The official word from the Co-Chair of the Committee, Representative Wendy Pieh, was: "Your testimony plus the followup that we have all received has made the decision that the rabies vaccination time will NOT be changed."

"The followup" that the committee members received was SEVERAL HUNDRED E-MAILS in opposition to the amendment -- they were swamped!! The response was so overwhelming that even the Director of Animal Welfare, Norma Worley, who wrote and pushed the amendment requested that it be deleted!

MANY, MANY THANKS for responding to the action alert! Contacting the committee made a huge difference in the lives of Maine dogs, and the law will not be changed as a result!

Kris

Thank you, Michael!

Several hundred dog lovers raised their voices on this and Maine's Agriculture Committee heard them loud & clear and took appropriate action!

Isn't it terrific!!!

Thank you, Michael!

Obama seems to have all he needs to move mountains -- the dogs need me on their team.

Obama also came out stating he supports animal rights, that's enough to tell me he is not going to be a friend to the best interest of animals.

What a totally ironic situation and play on words it is - someone supports the notion of 'animal rights' and someone else says that person therefore is not going to act in the best interests of animals.

Seems you can't win no matter what with some people.

The animal rights activists are NOT acting in the best intrest of animals unless you consider emimination of dometic animals in their best intrest.

Animal Welfare works in the best intrest of animals. Animal Rights works for control of what we can and can't do with our animals.

What you aren't understanding Michael is the role of animal rights activists and agenda in the US political process. Animal righters would be in favor of mandating by law the type of vaccination protocol Kris was successful in defeating.

When a political candidate is asked his/her position on animal rights and says they are in favor of supporting that agenda, then that is not a good thing for animal.

That is good news to hear in Maine. Since politics has already been brought up here, I will add my two cents (via observations) I will just state that I cannot believe how many of the American people don't see the writing on the wall regarding Obama and this is just one more reason not to support him.

Bonnie and her dogs vote too as well as the rest of my family.

Barack Obama says he cares about animal rights (note low case) very much. " Not only because I have children who want a dog."
Obama said he sponsored a bill to prevent horse slaughter in Illinois which was endorsed by the Humane Society.
" How we treat our animals reflects how we treat each other and it is very important that we have a President who is mindful of the cruelty that is perpetrated on animals."
