NOT CORGI REALATED

ok so fore Christmas my neighbor baught his daughter a golden retriever. He is cute but you can tell he doesnt look like a golden. i asked him how old he was and he said 5 weeks (he looks more like 4 months(and behaved like a 4 month old)). well anayway his whole 2 acre yard is fenced in but at the 2 gates for the drivewas there is like a 1.5-2' opening under the gate. So every day (a couple times a day) he would come over. i leave megan outside for a couple of hours and when i would go i out he would be in my yard. i really didnt mind the puppy but megan didnt and he kept trying to mount her. he was not nueterd but megan is spayed. well anyway when ever the guy would see him over at our yard he would take a stick and start hitting his back legs(not hard but it was unnescesary) he didnt train the dog and i never see them playing. the daughter never takes care of it either. but the hguy would yell GO HOOME!!! GO HOME!!! the dog would get so confused and just run under a bush shaking. he would take a rope tye it around his neck and drag him home. i felt soo bad. well eventually he got tired of the dog runnign away all the time so he tied him to a short rope in his back yard. the dog isnt allowed inside so is tied up all the time. he hasnt even started to train him yet. i was thinking about aking him if i can take him for walks atleast 3 times a week so i could train him and give him some excercize. i really like his dog and he is really cute but i feel so sorry for him. i cant see him tied but imy other neighbor, another animal lover, tell me about him. what should i do?

If he says no to you wanting to walk and exercise the puppy I would report him for animal cruelty and hopefully someone will come to investigate. I don't really know how those things work since I've never had the need to report someone. Here is a link about leaving dogs tied up all of the time.

WikiAnswers - Is leaving a dog tied up outside all the time animal abuse

Do you know anyone who wants a dog? I'd take the dog and find it a home when the guy isn't home. That may not be legal, but thats is what i would do. I would not let that dog remain there. And you know he's probably not going to get him neutered. I agree, I don't like people either. I hate people that put dogs on chains or ropes.

As tempting as it may be, you cannot take someones dog from their yard to give to someone else; you don't have the authority to do that and you could be in big trouble if they found out it was you

I don't know what the laws are there regarding tying a dog up or having them live outside, but in many places, as long as the dog has shelter(such as a dog house) and is fed and watered, then it would be okay for him to be outside; even though we may not agree with it.

Is the dog about 3 months old now? You said you cannot see the dog but the other neighbor told you about it? If you are concerned about the dog, call animal control and have them check it out, or ask this other person to do it; since she can see it. Not sure if you can remain anonoymous in doing so.

In our area the dog can not be tied out for longer then a certain time, they have to have adequate food and water and a dog house for shelter. A tree, the underside of a deck etc, don't count. It has to be a dog house. Check your local dog ordinances ASAP and see what they say-you might be able to get him on other infractions too.

If the dog leaves the property again and enters your yard, call your local animal shelter right away. Tell them the dog is consistently loose and runs at large. Say that it is harrasing your own dogs. Put it in a kennel or crate and wait for them to come get the dog.

At this point, the dog is better off in the shelter where a caring person might adopt them or a breed rescue can take them in. The way you describe it, the owner won't want to spend the money to get the dog out anyway.

Also you can report the times when the dog was retrieved by the owner and the violence you saw. Unfortunately, like many people, you let it happen without reporting it and that may just cost that dog in the long run. It now has a fear of being abused, has concerns with men and the abuse that you saw may be the tip of the ice berg.

My best advice-be proactive and as soon as you see abuse-report it!

I think all the advise you're being given is good (call animal control if you seeing it being abused& if it's on your property tie it up and call the appriorate authorities to come and get it.

To reiterrate-DO NOT take the dog off of his property.

I would add, if you're still on friendly, or at least speaking, terms with the neighbor, you might ask him if they really want the dog. Since she doesn't seem to be interested in it, he may think the dog is more trouble than it's worth and be agreeable to rehoming it. It's probably a slim chance and you'd have to be careful in how you ask, but it might be worth a try.

Slightly off topic, but, still concerns despicable behavior (on a humans part); this morning at 6:00 a.m. Will started barking so I went downstairs thinking that he must need to go out, so, I opened the door and he stopped at the bottom of the steps (in my backyard) and the cat was standing there and I couldn't tell if he (the cat) had caught something. I told Will to leave it and went down the steps to find my cat interested in a full can of cat-food. Now, how does a cat bring home a full can of cat food? I think someone in the area is trying to rid the neighborhood of cats. I tossed the food after contacting the authorities, but, still, what type of person goes into a backyard to feed a cat??? My neighbors have been alerted, so, we'll all be more vigilant.

The odd thing is that about two weeks ago, I saw a can of cat-food laying out on the street. It was about empty and frankly I thought it had been pulled out of a recycling container. It was the same brand as I found today.

There was a similar story on my local news, not too long ago. Some hunting dogs were posioned. The authoriities think the posion was set out for cats, but the dogs got into it instead. Sad what some people will do.

Does your cat just stay in your yard or has it wandered into the neighbors yards?

It's usually an indoor cat, but, it ran out last night because one of my children had a sleepover. It's a neutered male and doesn't stray. My next door neighbors like him, but, the point is that even if they didn't someone had to trespass into my backyard to leave the food.

That is rather strange then. A few years ago, some neighbors of ours had a lab that died from consuming antifreeze. They found it in the dogs pen outside. They felt it was their odd neighbor next door that had done it, but couldn't prove it. I really don't know if they pursued it any further.
