I was told by my vet that it is a much better investment to set up a separate savings account and just put the money you would be spending on insurance into it. That way you always know how much you have available to you and in the event you have an "emergency" you never have to worry about insurance not covering it.

There are only two dog insurance schemes in New Zealand and one of them is better than the other if you make very careful comparison of them, but either scheme is very good and easily endorsable. Within each insurance scheme are several options.
