Shippo Hurt Himself! BiteNotCollar, Round 2!

Boy am I glad I invested in a BiteNot collar. Because now I get to use it again, much to Shippo's displeasure lol... It's so much better than the e-collar though.

Anyway, Shippo was running in the dog park yesterday, and he must've torn his paw pad on something, because I noticed him chewing it today. Got down and took a look, and there's a big piece of skin hanging off his semi-raw paw pad. Ugh! So, I got to do first aid today. Grabbed some gauze, antibacterial ointment, gauze tape, and an old sock. Put it all together on his paw, after cleaning it off of course. And now Shippo is sitting here looking pathetic, with a big sock over his leg, and a BiteNot collar lmao...

Poor guy... <.<;

Awww! That "big piece of skin hanging off his semi-raw paw pad" gave me that stomach-flipping, can't stand the thought of gaping wounds feeling. Poor Shippo. Well he doesn't look too happy, but still very handsome as always, even in his Bite Not. Get better soon, Shippo!

It used to get to me as well lol. I had to get used to it though, because I got a job at a vet clinic, assisting the techs with everything, including bloodwork, and bandaging horrible, bloody wounds... eesh... some of them still kinda turn my stomach lol...

we are sooo sorry to hear about poor shippo...hope he's on all paws again soon....can i ask where you got that no bite collar?? im thinking that might be good for cammie when she has her big girl surgery...i got a flexible collar from someone else but i fear it will be too big even with the ability it has to tighten...this looks like a better alternative....was it expensive too?? if you remember...hope shippos feeling better soon...

We had talked about the different "medical" collars on some other thread. I think the Bite Not looks less annoying for the dog too.

I'm still thinking you could make one out of two Koozies cut open and some Velcro tape. Debbie suggested thick foam from a craft store, which should also work.

I do notice that the actual Bite Not brand has a band attached that goes under the arms around the chest. Cheetah, do you think that band actually helps keep the collar on? I guess it would depend on how hard the dog might fight the collar.

Bite Not site includes a list of online distributors: BiteNot Collars for Dogs

I think it does help to help the collar on - especially with all the struggling Shippo did to get at his stitches when he got neutered lol. It was fairly pricey - I paid around $40 - but he has it for life.

I am very pleased that you are able to play doctor/nurse and not rush off to the nearest vet. Hope it heals in a couple of days and then you'll restrict Shippo's exercising to grassy/soft areas for a few days

Well, Shippo's pad is healing now... almost there! I only needed the BiteNot for the first night. After that, I was able to take the bandage and collar off and just watch him.
