Pockets Update

I feel as if I try to steal threads so I am not going to be so wordy anymore. This is my own though so watch out!!

We have, well I have, recently made Pockets kennel larger because we have not peed in there in quite a while, except at my sisters house but he is next to another dog there and doesn't like to pottywhere they are supposed to potty, and yada yada yada. Hes a rebel what can I say!

He is sitting now. Doesn't like to do it but he will. He wants toconstantly play and seems to never tire so sometimes we go kennel just so he will take his naps. We do this after I get him to stop for 10 secoinds and he almost falls asleep!

He still does not make noise when he has to go out but has now started to run in the kitchen, where door is, and then run in living room and look then run back to kitchen....you know like get off your butt mom I gotta pee!

I almost wonder if he knows how to walk as we seem to run constantly. He is mouthy. I tell him NO and he barks at me or makes some sort of noise. We are herding kids yet but not so much adults anymore! He has learned which neighborhood kids to avoid at the fence and which ones we like.

Anyway just wanted to share!

That Pockets is very cute - how old is he again?

Cody sometimes sits by the door when he wants to go out, but a lot of times
he sort of whines, and that is my signal that he needs to go potty. I have
learned what his signals are by now.

Your Pockets must enjoy playing with his other doggy friends.

Taylor has never signalled by sound that he wants to go anywhere - toilet or ouside or into another room or inside when outside. He's often told not shout out as he sometimes does at nights between 4.30 and 6.30. So lately he has replaced shouting with low volumn growling. This to me is humorous - a long winded, deep throated but quietly voiced growl is rather funny, don't you think.
Running ie jogging, is physically easier for Corgis to do than is fast walking. So many Corgis break into a jog or a trot when you would wonder why don't they just walk. Excitement also promotes running. Fast walking in the conformation show ring without breaking into a trot, is a learnt art.

Corgis just don't like fouling their beds or a confined space such as a kennel. So your Pockets will have learnt the drawbacks of doing that and at the same time you've improved on your skills as a puppy owner.

Michael,

Cody does those deep throated growls and I just think they are so funny. He
usually does this in the morning when I open his crate. He will step out and
then drop down and roll on his back and make the funniest noises and of
course, he has to have a short morning tummy rub before he goes outside
to do his "duty"

Those kind of growls can be attention seeking, or a ritual aimed at "what follows after saying good morning" - rumbling growls, tummy massages etc.

Thanks for all the good thoughts! Of course Pockets is adorable he is a Corgi after all!!

I think our biggest signal to having to go out right now is when he makes no noise! He is funny, just full of energy! He thinks he will one day grow up to be bigger then the older dogs but not sure how he plans to accomplish that! We did have an accident yesterday but I think he just felt the need to prove a point since I said we were doing good!

He likes to bark when he wakes up before the other two just to get them barking at noone. I am sure the does it on purpose because he barks to get them up then sits and looks innocent as I try to regain control of my zoo! Not to bad though. I like my dogs barking lets pople know they are here. Although not sure what good it does since they all hide behind me when they don't know someone.

Pockets is now 12 weeks old. So we still are very much a puppy! He makes so many little noises that I am still learning them all!

He very much likes to play with the girls. He always goes after their collars. He likes playing with their name tags. They are good with him and let him know if he has gone to far!

Thanks for listening (reading) me brag about my little guy! Its nice to have some place to do that!

Penny

Michael,

they do get my attention. Sometimes I am in the kitchen and he is in the
family room on his back making those noises and of course, I can't resist
stopping what I am doing to give him a tummy rub.

Talking

Michael & Linda,
Jackie does those growls too. We always refer to it as "complaining", because she always seems to do it in response to something she does not agree with.

Two of my favorite examples . . .

1) When we let her out of her crate in the morning, combined with big, dramatic yawns & stretches.
"I don't wanna get up!"

2) When we are walking, and someone passes by us WITHOUT stopping to pet her and exclaim over her fluffy cuteness.
"Hey! Where do you think you are going? Get back here & pet me!!!"

I've said it before, and I'll say it again . . . She's a Princess.

Jessica,

My Cody does the same thing as your #1. You would think that when I open
his crate in the morning, he would made a mad dash for the patio door to
outside, instead he rolls on his back in his crate and yawns and does the
growls, OR, he comes out and I put his leash on him and then he plops down
and rolls over for his tummy rub doing his little growls also.

It is very endearing.

It's too funny! And I find it especialy endearing, because I feel the same way when I have to get out of bed in the morning!!

All this talk about yawning in the morning. Did you people realise that when a dog yawns, it's not the same reason why humans would be compelled to yawn ie a dog yawning is not a sign of tiredness or a human-like awakening gesture after a night's sleep. Its more from stress (an effort to calm down) or conversly, an effort to charge themselves up.

you may both be right, Micheal and Debbie but it sure seems like a wake up gesture when Duchess yawns and stretches as soon as she gets up. there is no sign of stress, except she has to wait on me getting myself together to go outside.
Do all corgis fall on their sides when they are going to lay down? Duchess just seems to flip over, it is so cute.
