Two corgis sleeping together in confined safe area?

Hi again, we have been having each of our dogs sleeping in separate crates, however now we are wondering about a different solution and wanted to know what you all thought. We have an area in our kitchen where my husband built in a planning desk. Under this area is a quite large safe place, approximately 32x24x28. We think with a baby gate we can 'rig' a kind of door and they can sleep in there together. They do not fight at all, and are very friendly with eachother. What do you think of this idea? Whenever I take a road trip I only bring one crate... my two boys have stayed in a single crate (it's large) for up to 6-7 hours... they actually snuggle and lay on top of one other and it's is quite cute.

That's one of the reasons one would purchase a medium sized crate rather than a small crate - to comfortably accommodate two Corgis.

It would be better for the future of the dogs to keep them used to sleeping in their respective crates. There may be times that you will want to have them separate. If you also would like to have a bed under the desk where they could snuggle together when they chose to that may be an option. But why do you say a "solution"? Is there a problem with two crates?

You might not have any problems, depending on the dogs' personalities. Just to be on the safe side though, I would keep separate crates and let them sleep together when they choose to (like Jane suggested). Skye is likely to challenge for dominance when she enters adolesence and that could mean territorial fights. Also dogs spending 24 hours a day together, could bond more with each other and less with their humans. I would think that separate crates, in addition to some separate play/training activities, will help you stay in charge of "the pack".

The only problem with two crates is the crowded house feature with two much furniture and two crates. They slept together last night in the 'fort' and did well, so we will continue to test that and see if it works for them. Thanks to everybody for their responses, jjrs

Crates can be stacked, then they don't take up more floor space.

I have to agree with Jane, it would be better for the dogs to have two crates. When dogs or any animal gets too crowded they tend to get a bit crabby. Also two dogs in one crate might be too hot especially in the summer time.

And yes, at times they might need to be seperated and it is good if they used to that before hand.
