It's a good idea for us to keep the pups out of the kitchen.

My corgi while I was growing up was always underfoot in the kitchen. My big brother tripped over her one day while carrying a pot of boiling water to the sink to strain noodles and she was so severely burned on her head (it all fell on her head) If it had not been winter, where she went outside and rubbed in the snow, she probably wouldn't have lived. She had no hair on her head for the last 5 years of her life. My dad (a vet) said that we were lucky she didn't lose her eyes. (15 years later, my brother still wells up when we talk about it!)

Anyway, since then, we have kept all corgis out of the kitchen. Now with two of them, we especially can't have them there.. Their Hoover skills are missed, but we worried about their safety as well as our own. (I have MS and don't have ideal feeling in my feet, so if they are underfoot, it's not always noticable to me) I'm all on board for keeping pets out of the kitchen... too many possibilities for injury... our corgis are quick, so if an onion or brick of chocolate hits the floor, they will swallow it in no time!

But like I said... their Hoover skills are missed.

Peggy's link is a great illustration of a Corgi who wasn't brushed out when it was in the middle of blowing coat. The owner intentionally didn't brush the dog out to give a good illustration of "blowing coat". Most of us who brush at least twice a week will never see our dog look like a rampant cotton candy machine gone wild...even during a blowing period.

Quote: "I decided to let it go until the undercoat loosened up way past "tufting" and do some illustrative pictures. Spock looked like he was exploding cotton fluff!"

Hmmm, if he's getting it around his collar and on his back he might not be a red after all. Got any recent pictures?

Peggy
I took some pictures after our walk today, trying to highlight the new sable hairs that came in two or so months ago. He now has a "V" of sable around his collar and travelling down his back. The middle of his back is still deep red, but he's also got new sable hairs coming in on his back 2-3 inches above his tail (where he has a major cowlick that won't lie down...lol).

I'll bet he gets more in his back next year. Sables seem to get darker (more sable) each year.

Ha ha, well the breeder had him as sable when I bought him, but when he went red/white except for his head and tail I registered him with AKC as red/white. It'll be interesting to see what color he becomes as he matures a bit more. So I've been calling him a sable-headed red and white...I guess that's still accurate for now.

Yup, and that might be what he is. Blaze is a sable headed red too.
