Lil Orphan Pup
I thought you would like to know that I took the orphan puppy to the Vet's on Saturday - The vet said her weight is very good - 14.2 lbs and she is probably 10 weeks old. She thinks she is australian shepherd mix. I think I judged her age off because she was so thin and small. The vet said she is now healthy and doing well. The kicker is that she doesn't think that this pup would do well in another home because she is so shy and timid and doesn't trust people. We don't know what her history was prior to finding her in the field, she may have been abused, etc. So the end of the story is - we have another dog.
Chip is tickled and this pup is very tolerant of Chip so Chip will be "top dog" Another corgi pup is not in the immediate future. Chip got weighed and as I said in a previous thread, is now up to 17.6 lbs.

My husband named her Maybelle and she will come when called. Yes, you are probably right - there is a reason for everything. She has the saddest lil eyes and she was so pathetic. I will post a picture soon.

Good for you, I think there are certain people like you (and me) that seem to be put in the path of animals in need. A lot of people wouldn't think twice and would just walk away or ignore an animal. Some of us can't do that and we make a decision to help. Sometimes the right decision is that the animal belongs with us. That's how I wound up with my cats - I've rescued numerous over the years (one last week in fact) but certain ones seemed to belong and I could tell.
I don't think you'll regret helping Maybelle - I know she won't regret it. |

Oh Bonnie, this is good news, especially for Maybelle - she found some very special people to call her own.
"The kicker is that she doesn't think that this pup would do well in another home because she is so shy and timid and doesn't trust people. We don't know what her history was prior to finding her in the field, she may have been abused, etc." Abuse I doubt, given the age of the puppies when you found them. I think you are looking more at genetic temperament coupled with non-existant human nurturing until you found them. Shy and timid can be found in Aussie's, even tho' they're not supposed to be, but randomly bred, breeding just to be breeding "breeders" don't pay a lot of attention to temperament. Chip will be a great "big brother" for her and an excellent role model. Do what you did with him as baby pupppy - lots of socialization, praise when she's "brave," puppy classes can also help with her confidence. Congratulations on your latest addition. Debbie |
