corgi movie

A long long time ago there was a Walt Disney movie called " Little Dog Lost" I fell in love with the Pembroke Welch Corgi who was the star. I have tried to track down the movie but it is so old that it may not be available anywhere. Can someone who is more computer savvy than myself take a crack at looking for one or more copies?

I looked into it and seems that it was a TV movie. And because of this, finding a copy would be rather difficult. The Disney website lists it as 'unavailable.'

Here's a little description I found of the movie.

Quote:
Little Dog Lost

TV Movie
This is the story of Candy, a very young Welsh corgi puppy who is bought by a couple as a pet for their children, Bud and Katy. The parents begin training Candy almost at once and the dog seems to settle into the household without difficulty. Problems begin, however, when Candy is about four months old. The dog becomes terrified of brooms, associating them with punishment, and runs away from home.

My corgi acts strange around anything that moves or can fall. She nudges the thing to see if it will stand still. This is especially true of brooms. If I remember correctly "Candy" was a tricolor just like my dog.
Thank you for your reply. Someday this movie may be available I will keep looking.

Little Dog Lost was made in 1961-62 and released in January, 1963 as a television movie. It may yet become available on video or DVD. It will pay to keep checking with the Disney organisation or with distributors.

Famous movies which featured a Corgi are: Bud in The Accidental Tourist (1988), Elvis in Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead (1991), Bud and Cody in Dave (1993). But Corgis have appeared in a huge array of movies and television. I saw a list of films where Corgis made appearances of various degrees and the list just went on and on.

The novel Little Lost Dogs was written by Meindert de Jong. Perhaps the book is still available from libraries etc.

Generally speaking, it is in a Corgi's nature to be wary of things that are not stable and are unpredictable - and easily moveable and "wobbly" objects are not stable. Brooms are particularly unstable and unpredictable. They can fall around, they sweep here, they sweep there. They look like a large stick but they can also be (used) threateningly.

My Duchess doesn't like things that make a noise either like the vaccuum. When she is stressed she will grab a silent vac by the hose. Again sometimes she just pushes the hose with her nose to see if it will attack her. All her excentricities are so endearing. At age seven her habits are pretty well fixed. I just try to keep her world as unthreatning as possible. I am learning from this website and a book about Corgis that they respond best to gentle treatment and firmness.

You've hit it on the button - gentle treatment for Corgis. Any scolding should be on a slightly raised vocal level and right at the time of an "incident" and should always be followed by something positive which can be praised. Lavish praise is good, brow beating is not.

If only I could execute the same kind of patient and understanding treatment to my (human) children. Oh well, some people are better suited with a canine family, I guess.

Getting back to the tv movie, Little Lost Dog. If enough pressure was placed on the Disney organisation they will put the movie on video or DVD. Since 1963 when the movie was released, two things happened: One...... the Disney movie helped enormously to popularise the Welsh Corgi (Pembroke variety, in particular) to an extent only bettered by the British Queen; and two, the difference in the numbers of Pem owners in 1963 and 40-odd years later - especially in the USA - is huge.
So there exists today what could be a very strong lobby grouping with regard to Corgi owners and admirers. So all you people reading this discussion message need do is send a message in turn to the Disney organisation asking for video/DVD release of Little Lost Dog. It will also act as a marketing tool for the future of Corgis. Perhaps the administrator of GoCorgi will lend his/her weight to lobbying Disney.

That is a fabulous idea to pressure the Disney Empire to put out this movie on DVD. I know my breeder friend is anxious to get a copy and I would love to gift it to her for her generousity in giving me Duchess. I went to the website that the administrator cited and it gave me an opportunity to register my interest in having the movie released to DVD.

A little bit more on this movie little dog lost. I got on a website that states the the movie is occasionally played on the Disney Channel. I went to the disney channel website and asked if it is scheduled to be on TV in the near future. There is no answer yet but there are so many websites for this movie itself that there seems to be a great deal of interest in it.

Hi Jane
Well done, but I think you've missed the point. If the company legitimately responsible for the production of a Little Lost Dog video/DVD becomes convinced that there is a market/demand for production and world-wide distribution, then we can further the cause for the popularity of Welsh Corgis - Pems in particular. This is not simply a GoCorgi thing with its tiny membership and limited interest. I think we need to get back to the lobbying of Disney.

Right Mike, we should continue to lobby Disney to release this movie on VHS/ DVD But in the meantime I will try to get a copy for myself. Haven't hear back from contact. Since talking to more people I have got at least another owner interested in getting a copy. I am adding to this message:I did get back on and request the release of the film again and cited the interest I have seen from owners and members of this website. I stated that I had already gotten a copy but would like to buy another copy from the Disney company rather than retape it for friends

Re Little Lost Dog video and DVD. Thanks Jane.

Here are the steps to get Little Lost Dog - about the adventures of Candy, the Pembroke Corgi - made available on video or DVD : go to website www.disneyvideos.disney.go.com and click onto "questions" (at bottom of page) and then fill-in email request and send.

I've done it and so has Jane. With some more requests, Disney will comply.
