Hi guys - congratulations on your new pup!

I think Rhys is a great name - as it's the name of my 9 month old red and white Pem! And, yes, Rhys is the proper Welsh spelling. "Ardent" definitely fits him!

I like Trystan, as well. I think I also considered Merlin or Merlyn.

Good luck on the names!

Edited to add: Awww, thanks Fluffypants!

You may want to wait until you pick up the new addition and see what grabs you when you see him! I have a whole Peter Pan thing going on here so I now have my Lost Boy (only boy while hubby is away) Pockets. He is now 4 1/2 months. Names are the hardest but maybe one will just grab you when you pick him up. Just remember to make to easy enough to train! I would say Rhys as well. Good luck...share pictures!

I think Pockets is a trully wonderful name - to me it is so original and meaningful and not at all silly. So many names of dogs are just that -silly - and a lot of names are far too popular Look at the top twenty or so male and female names on Dogster (www.dogster.com). I wouldn't want to be a copyist to that extent.

Awww...I think Pockets is a cute name, too!

Pocketsmom is right about training: the shorter the name, the easier it is to learn. One or two syllables is best.

Thanks all!

Thanks for all of the suggestions guys. Jeff and I are definately down to those 4 names. I think we are leaning toward choosing a name on Saturday (doggy day as I have been calling it). I have been antsy all week and I don't think I have been this excited since I was 8 and anticipated a shiny new bike before christmas.

This puppy is special because my partner (Jeff), as I mentioned before, used to own a pembroke. Sadly, Jeffs ex-partner had to have that dog euthanized due to unpredictable behavior and some nasty biting. Jeff was actually bitten very badly by the dog when he and his ex were still together. Jeff has only just recently come to the decision that he is ready for another try. He was quite hurt by the fact that the ex partner didn't tell him that the dog was to be euthanized until after the fact. Jeff still gets very emotional when remembering that dog. For the last year I have been encouraging him to remember Winston by giving the pembroke breed another chance. A trainer and a vet both worked with Jeff and Winston to get the dog to calm down and not be so agressive but in the end they all agreed that the agressiveness in winston was unusally severe and it is not likely that another pembroke would be the same way. I have waited a long time to bring this puppy home so its a very good day...Jeff is excited and nervous as well. Attached is a photo of Winston.

Thanks again all!

Good luck with your new pup Robby! Winston sure was a handsome guy. And I think a new pup may help Jeff remember the good things about Winston, instead of the bad. One thing that will really help get you all off to a good start . . . obedience training. Have fun and enjoy being new Daddies!

Yes, Robby and Jeff - you will have to give us a full report of what happens when you bring your pup home! It's so exciting getting a puppy, especially a Corgi! I was so excited to get Rhys: I paid his deposit on December 22, but couldn't pick him up until December 26 - those four days were hard enough! But I had been waiting for a Corgi for ages.

I am so sorry that Jeff had to go through that Winston. My heart goes out to anyone that has to make those hard choices to put down an animal, but that Jeff didnt get to say goodbye makes it even harder.

I wish you guys such wonderful joys with your new puppy, cant wait to see pics of your new baby.

I like Trystan, I have a cat named Triston - he has three legs so the TRI - is for 3! It also has a very distinct sound which helps in training - I made sure that my dogs names don't sound similar to each other or to any of the cats so they would know their own name.

I also suggest Arden - I was told it means love in Welsh.
