Hello all,
My name is Robby and my partner and I are getting a Pembroke this weekend. We are having a very difficult time finding a good name for our new arrival. I thought I would ask for a few suggestions. We would like to take some "inspiration" from Wales, as the birthplace of the corgi breed. Also, my partner previously owned a Pembroke corgi named Winston of Somerset. Winston was a great name, but that dog was lost in a very sad circumstance. While we would like a similar name to Winston, we don't feel right about naming the new addition after that dog. Any suggestions would be great as we have thought about it for over 6 months and have not had any great ideas. Our new arrival will be a red pembroke male. Thanks for your help. I am so glad I found you guys! Robby and Jeff Atlanta, GA USA |

Welcome to the site. Click on www.amlwchdata.co.uk/male_names.htm for some possible Welsh names for your new Pem. How old is your new dog? My name is Linda and I have an almost 8 month old male named Cody. |

Hi Robby and Jeff
Welcome to Go Corgi. Your problem is easily solved - at least in the first instance - try this website which gives you thousands of male Welsh first names in clear type and a short explanation of each name : www.20000-names.com/male_welsh_names My eldest son is named Dylan - and you can't get more Welsh than that! A recent Pem pup I looked after is named Taffy which is also very Welsh. Let me know how you get on. Perhaps Go Corgi members could assist you by voting on your top three or so, choices. |

Welcome to GoCorgi!
As you can see from my avatar, I have two red & white Pems, Montrose (aka Monty), she is almost 12, and Dylan, who is almost 9. We also had Thomas, who is waiting at The Bridge for us. Our next male will be called Danny. So, there are some name ideas for you. And oh what an exciting weekened you have ahead of you! Have you seen him yet? You'll share lots of pictures of course.

Reece (Welsh meaning Eager or Ardent) Trystan (Welsh meaning noisy) Quinton (Irish meaning wise or intelligent) Plato (Greek meaning broad-shouldered) Thanks again for your help with my hunt! Robby Atlanta, GA USA |

So far REECE has the best meaning - eager and ardent - which pretty much sums up a Pem Corgi. But the spelling of Reece is not true Welsh - it should be Rhys I would imagine.

My male corgi's name is Jesse, but I too had the hardest time coming up with a name for him. Originally I named him Jaime from the hero in my favorite time travel books Outlander (it takes place in England and Scotland so thought that would be close to Wales). My kids didn't think the name Jaime was masculine enough for them. My son-in-law wanted to name him T Bone for his facial blaze.

Welcome Robby & Jeff! I'm not going to be much help, as I like all of those names (although, if pressured, I might narrow it down to Reece or Trystan). Funny Michael should mention the spelling "Rhys", because we have a very charismatic corgi on this site with that exact name!
