Hi All,
This would be a MAJOR help if I can get some advice on this. I live in NYC. Most of the beaches here are NOT dog friendly. It's the summer so it would be so nice to take our little corgi - Milo to a beach. I don't mind travelling to CT, NJ, or any other Eastern border so he can have a great time. He likes sitting in the car also so no worries. What are so dog friendly beaches and hotels that you all could recommend? It would be so helpful if you can help! We been planning to go to Boston and Maine also recently. Any suggestions appreciated!

Thanks for the links guys but most are extremely far as in Montauk, LI (like 2-3 hours away from NYC). hahaha. I still have to do more research in finding a good beach place.
A lot of the dog friendly beaches are in Florida and California it seems like. |

If you want to go to the Outer Banks, there was beaches in that area that allowed pets. I haven't been in awhile though. Some didn't have lifeguards. We went to Charleston which is a ways for you to drive, but that was pretty good. With this heat, alot of beaches will be closed to pets during certain hours until the fall though. I am not sure, if you headed north, what you may run into.

sweetlychee - I have the same problem, as I am in Westchester County. There is nowhere close that we can take our dogs! We did, however, decide to make a weekend trip to the North Fork of Long Island over July 4th weekend. We found a pet friendly hotel on takeyourpet.com . . . and most of the beaches we went to out there allowed dogs. So if you REALLY want to take Milo to the beach, you might consider that option.

Fluffypants - Wow, that must have been a long drive for you! Westchester is really nice up there especially with the more open spaces. Even though corgis don't need that much open spaces, we would like to give him that freedom of running around on the soft sand. Or, I wait for winter until he gets to play with the white snow. Sigh...decisions...decisions!
How long was the drive for you though, Fluffypants? |

Not too bad. We are in Port Chester, so we took a ferry from Bridgeport, CT to Port Jefferson on Long Island. Total trip, door to door, was about 3 hours, but half of that was ferry, so not too bad.
ps - we can always arrange a playdate up here in the "country" for Milo!

I wish we can arrange a playdate. Milo is a very loud and anxious puppy. There is another fellow corgi around our neighborhood named Foxy. He is 3 years old. We took our 6 month old crazy puppy around the corner to greet Foxy several times. His owners love to see Milo but Milo barks at him everytime. And Foxy barks back. I think I need to socialize him more!

Jackie won't bark back . . . she'll just tackle him!

Living in Michigan, you are always less than 2 hours from a Great Lake!! Dog friendly beaches?...Our FAVORITE is between Ludington and Manistee, on the "left coast" of the mitten - at the Lake Michigan Recreation Area. We used to camp there with friends who had a Lab and affectionately refer to the area as the "Dog Beach"! (In fact, our daughter wants to be married there next August!!
...but WITHOUT Chloe in attendance!) It is a beautiful, wide, sandy beach - not crowded - perfect water!! Worth the drive - unless, of course, you live in New York City - what with the price of gas! Margo |
