Best car seat and safety buckle for a corgi
Hi All,
I was wondering what is the best kind of safe car seat for a corgi. I have seen some that is just a seat that attaches to the buckle of a car. It keeps the dog from scratching the seats and surrounds him like a basket. I also have seen some that is just a harness covering his chest. Are there any that's both? Or any good recommendations out there? Thank you!

I bought this restraint system for Trevor (size small):
http://www.champk-9.com/CCSS.htm I purchased one harness and two restraint straps (one for each vehicle). I looked at the various car seats but the one shortcoming they all seemed to have was that they all utilized your dog's own walking harness. Since most walking harnesses snap closed using only a plastic buckle, this would create a weak point, possibly coming undone, during a crash. This Champion system seems to address that weakness. I just placed the order a few days ago, so it hasn't arrived yet, but I think it is going to work out well. Oh, and the restraint harness can be used as a walking harness, as well, once you reach your destination. -Debi |

You can view it on DrsFosterSmith.com. It is called the travelin pet seat. After reading other posts though, I am going to have to get a strong harness for Chip. I didn't think of the clasp being weak.

We've used something very similar to the champs harness on both of our dogs. Cloud who's calm and relaxed does just fine with it in the car. nigel on the other hand, we worry will stangle himself from trying to jump up and down in his seat.
Nigel in my car is a wind addict though....I've never had a dog try and stick himself so far out th window, I have to keep the window rolled up so he can only get his head out or else he rests his upper torso and legs out the window as well.

Fortunately, Trevor is pretty calm while riding in the vehicles. Supposedly, the Champ system utilizes some sort of "floating" mechanism where the restraint strap attaches, to give the dog more freedom of movement and lessen the chance of getting tangled up in the strap. I got a conformation email today saying that it's shipped, so we shall find out, soon enough.

Milo is semi-calm when riding in the car. He loves to lay down and relax but once in a while will stick his head out to enjoy the wind. He doesn't stick it too far out. I think he senses it as not being as safe.
Finding a good car safety seat/buckle is like some homework! |

Today I FINALLY got the Champion K-9 Auto Restraint system in the mail. It looks like it is extremely well made, and the harness is completely adjustable to fit Trevor's body (unlike some other brand of auto harness I tried from Petco.)
I will get the system setup in our trucks this weekend and post a review, for those interested in auto restraint systems. -Debi |

Just a quick lunch-time reply before getting back to work...
We've been using the Champ K-9 system for a week now, and it is working out very well. Extremely well-made, completely adjustable harness. The strap that attaches to the harness is also heavy-duty. A screw-locking, carabiner-style connector on the other end of the strap allows for multiple attachment- point options. The strap length is adjustable, and I keep it long enough to allow Trevor some freedom of movement, but short enough so he won't fall on the floor or hit the dash. This weekend, I will take pictures with the digital camera and post a full review. So far, though, I would have to say it's a winner. -Debi |
