This is very exciting! And I agree with all that this is not a replacement . . . think of it as a tribute! Can't wait to hear more as the story unfolds!

Deb - so pleased that A/ you will have a little breathing space whether by design or by accident, and B/ that you could be mum eventually to a very close relation of Taylor's. Shelley Bondy has Taylor's half sister through the same father - Clinton, who is American-born and became a Canadian, NZ and Australian champion of the showring. Clinton is trully one of the finest Pems I have ever seen and a nature that is unusual and appealingly lovely but a little hard going in the showring. He lives in Kaiapoi, Christchurch and is around six-seven years old. I expect he will have another show campaign this year and next now that Lesley Chalmers is no longer the president of the NZ Kennel Club. Shelley Bondy also owns another Merthyr Pem - a boy who could also be related to Taylor on Taylor's mother's side.

Shelley is keen to hear from you and she says that she only lives two-three hours from your neck of the woods.

I looked briefly at Shelley's website and CH More About Merthyr (Gypsy) - Clinton's daughter very much resembles Taylor. They certainly are sister-brother.

Thanks T-Gal - Rupe's a big ham and camera hog.

Well, Belle of Imagine That Corgis is a no go. I sent the breeder my info and she won't sell a Corgi to another country or to anyone in an apartment. I respect her wishes - it's good to know she cares about her dogs. So Chloe-Belle and Leah Belle are it for now T-Gal.

But, Shelley Bondy of Raglan would be happy to have me be a puppy Mom of one of hers - however, it's a 4 month wait.

In the meantime, I spoke to two other breeders last night, who didn't have anything right now or before Raglan, but they highly recommended a breeder an hour down the road who may have pups now. She is currently with her dogs in Ohio to show and I'll have to wait until Monday or Tuesday to speak with her.
I've run out of breeders in Canada that are within driving distance, so I'll either be getting one from Curig/Faerie Tale down the road or wait 4 months for a Taylor relative.

The quest continues,

Deb

Deb,
I read this thread with much interest and enthuiasm this morning! I am SOOO pleased to hear that you are looking for a pup! And I agree wholeheartedly with T-gal about opening your heart and home to another puppy! Especially if Rupert is sad and lonely! It is VERY difficult, I know, the hurt of Riley's loss still being so raw... But I agree that you are doing the right thing. I wish that we had acted sooner after our Wimsey died - we waited over a year before we got Chloe and the pain just seemed to linger, our house was so terribly empty... And don't you think that Riley would approve of a little buddy romping around with Rupert? Not in a maudlin way, we still take Chloe to the corner of the yard where Wimsey is buried to say "Hello" - I know he would have enjoyed her energy and playfulness!!

BUT...I MUST stop looking at these puppy links everyone is providing!!! It is WAY too tempting and my "puppy fever" has reached a pitch!! Now, when I am on the computer prowling around Corgi sites, my daughter asks if we have located "Magglio" yet...see how bad it has become?! Our imaginary second Corgi even has a NAME!!!
good luck with your search!
Margo
by the way, I love your avatar of Rupert!

Thanks Margo - I am finding that I do have a wee case of puppy-fever - it's a welcome change from the sadness - it's still there, and you're right Riley would approve of Rupert being happy with another little buddy for sure.
It sounds as though you may be in store for a new one some day - don't get those of us two-Corgi folks started on the joy of having two - you won't stand a chance!!!

EEEKKKK A two Corgi household!! I try to imagine... Chloe already runs our household - I shudder to think how we would be outnumbered if "Magglio" joined in the fray!

The other day I was driving in town, screached to a halt at the sight of TWO gorgeous Corgis out for a walk! Naturally I introduced myself to the Corgis' person!!...He had grown up with Corgis and he basically said, of course he would always have TWO Corgis!!

(Maybe I will have to hang out on allrecipes.com or foodtv.com for a while until this "fever" passes...)

As long as Magglio was a boy - then Miss Chloe would be in female Corgi heaven having a boy to boss around!

Puppy fever is dangerous - but then, so are fattening recipes from food websites! Be careful!!

I love you avatar too.

When we lost our Thomas in early August one year, we found, with a lot of help, the litter that Dylan's mum was carriying. He came to us that October.

The pain of losing Thomas was so great that I do not know how we could have bared it if it was not the hope in our hearts that Dylan would come to us.

Good luck with your search Deb, I wish for you that it will help lighten you heart, even if just a little, as it did ours.

Chip has been a joy to me since Digger passed as I have said many times, he doesn't replace Dig, he just helps me get through. Many people couldn't understand me getting a new pup so soon but I couldn't stand the emptiness without him - very hard to explain especially because we had 2 other dogs at the time but it was the best thing for me. Lady, who is a corgi mix and was Digger's companion is aging rapidly since Dig has been gone. She is between 13 and 14 years old. You are doing exactly the right thing and T-Gal said it all. Good Luck in your search.

Deb - it is beyond me that a breeder would not let a puppy go to another country when that country is just across a border close at hand, and to all intent and purpose, is the same country only different. The similarities between Canada and the USA are enormous. But according to the latest survey on the countries of the world where the happiest /unhappiest people are - Canadians are happier than Americans ( New Zealanders are happier than either of them - the happiest are in Denmark). It is like me in New Zealand saying - no I won't send a puppy to Australia because that is a foreign country. Cripes, Australia is only a three hour flight away from NZ.

By the way, Shelley Bondy's Gypsy is actually a full litter sister to Taylor.
