Question Imagine That Corgis - Breeder Question - 08-02-2006, 02:24 PM

Any of my Yankee Corgi friends familiar with this kennel and breeder? It's in upper New York State (Ontario) and I may be looking at getting a new pup from her. Her name is Barbara Ferrell (the breeder - not the pup). The pup is a 13 week old female red and white.
The kennel website is:

www.imaginethatcorgis.com

Go to the puppy page and see Belle.

I seem to be in a difficult time frame for pups, I either have to get something very soon or wait 6 to 8 months. I think that will be too long for Rupert, but I feel strange about getting another so soon after losing Riley. If any of you know of breeders 5 hours maximum from Toronto you could recommend, I'd love to know.

I have been to the site before, and I like that it gives links to PWCCA & other info. But I have not personally dealt with her or heard anything about her. Good luck - and Belle is SUPER CUTE!

I got Chip about a week after Digger passed and I have not ever regretted it. He filled the emptiness in the house and kept me so busy that I didn't have time to brood as much. The website looked good to me. Are you going to pick up the pup?

The 'imaginethatcorgis' web site is very pleasing, gives good information, and Belle looks beautiful. I think it is just the very best and wisest thing, for both you and Rupert, to get a new addition to the family as soon as possible.

Hi Deb.
Imagine That Kennels seems genuine, and producers of quality Pems. I would imagine they carry a comprehensive array of guarantees as I would expect.

I am checking them out from my end. There will be several Corgi people here in NZ who know all the leading breeders and handlers of top Pems/Cardis in North America. So if you want to wait a day or two, I'll get back to you on it.

Meanwhile Belle with the big ears looks very much like her mother and that is as good a recommendation of beauty and poise that I can say at this point.

I believe you're looking for exemplary temperament and something that is up to the standard of Rupert without necessarily being a flawless show speciman.

If the blurb on the Imagine That website is correct, Belle will have already been housetrained and adjusted to different conditions and socialised, and that is exactly what you need with your accommodation situation. And at 13 weeks and possibly 15 by the time she gets to you, she will be far removed from a fledging 6-9 week old pup.

Deb- Lesley Chalmers is the breeder of my Taylor. She is currently in Finland Judging at all breed conformation shows and Corgi specialist shows.
But she told me by email that she has never heard of Barbara Ferrell or Imagine That. But she did say that in the same area there is a breeder and handler who breeds excellent Pems from Lesley's stock - Merthyr - and she would be good to contact just in case there is something available or coming up. It could be that if you got a Corgi from this person, it might very well be related to Taylor. Anyway, it will have a strong NZ connection.

Here are the details: Shelley Bondy, Raglansdream Reg'd 18471 Raglan Road, RR4 Blenheim, ON, NOP 1AD
Telephone 519 676 3873
email raglancorgis@sympatico.ca

Wow, thanks for all of the info guys. Thank you Michael - with your NZ connection - I have heard of Raglands - I will call them for sure. How cool would it be to have a relative of THE Taylor!
I have tried to get in touch with a number of well known breeders and being the summer, I guess they are all busy. The only breeder I did hear back from in Canada, I have been warned against the health of her dogs - she won't have a litter for a few months anyway.
I have felt terribly guilty about getting a pup so soon, but Rupert and I are both so sad and feel lost without our second dog. This morning I saw a red and white in the yard of a house while riding the bus and I got so excited - I wanted to jump off and ask them where it was from. I think this was my message that I really need to do this for both of us.
Oh, and yes, where ever I get a pup, I will drive and pick her up - no flying my dogs - it scares me too much.
Thanks again for all of your support.

Deb

These look beautiful - I'll try and get a hold of her as soon as I can.

Deb,

The web site looks very nice. The puppies are all beautiful - i

You shouldn't feel guilty. You are NOT replacing Riley - you are opening your heart to a new puppy. If you hadn't loved Riley so much and she hadn't been such a wonderful girl you wouldn't feel this way! Riley's legacy is giving you the capacity to love... what more could our friend and companion give us.

This woman has bred pups with the president of the Greater Houston Pembroke Welsh Corgi Fanciers! I thought I had heard that kennel name before.
See, I was negotiating to get a pup from the Pres - but, long story short, she sold it to someone else.

On the bright side, her pups are excellent so I can't imagine a breeder who works with her NOT having quality puppies.

AND...Riley knows you are not replacing her...you are just welcoming another pup to make a new spot in your heart. And Rupert is bound to love her! Belle's a cutie - looks mischievous, though.

ETA - I think T-Gal said it beautifully.

Thanks for that info - it's good too know. I'm waiting to hear back from the Belle's breeder to see if I passed all of the questions she asked me. I also am checking with three breeders a little close
