We took Ruby on vacation with us-observations - 08-06-2006, 08:01 AM

We rented a house for a week in Cape May NJ and took our Cardigan, Ruby, with us. When we arrived, Ruby was parked at the door waiting for us to leave and go home. After she realized we were going to be around for a while she moved away from the door. We soon left to get something to eat and when we came back she went into all the rooms ahead of us and started barking as if to say "if anything is here get lost or else". Within 2 days she looked at the place as if it was her new home and went into full house guarding mode. Ruby always knows when the luggage comes out something is up, and when we were ready to go home we brought the luggage out to the car without her she thought she was being left behind because when we returned to the house she had a playing attack and ran all over the house "frapping" in typical corgi fashion.

When we got home, as soon as she entered the house she started barking and then went into all the rooms barking as if to say "all right I'm back so get lost or else". Very very funny to watch. In retrospect Ruby probably thought the pack was moving somewhere and really didn't care as long as she was with the other members of the pack- me and my wife, and everyone was safe. Her behaviour was very endearing and really shows the devotion these dogs have to their loved ones.

Very cute story Cardiguy - I can just see her entering all those rooms making
her presence known.

They certainly do not want to be left out of the pack do they? It sounds like you all had a wonderful holiday, will there be pictures too?

When we travel now it is usually in the trailer and the dogs get that excited look on their faces when I open it up and start packing it. That is usually 1-2 days before we actually leave, so everytime I go out there, they have to watch me to make sure they are not left behind. It's not hooked up to the van yet, but still.

Then, when the morning comes that my husband hooks it up, and they know we are really leaving...those faces...I mean have we ever forgotten them at home before?

Digger used to crawl in my suitcase and stay there so I had to pack around him. When I got it all packed and set it down, he would lay beside it until we headed for the car. I learned not to pack before the night before we were going to leave. They sure are funny.

What a cute story! Dudley does the same thing--annoucing his presence to every room--each morning when we let him out of the bedroom. Quite a sight to see...he's such a good little guard dog!

hi Guys,

We have internet at this hotel so I get to check in with my favorite corgi friends!

love the travling stories - we decided to take one little short one b4 Emma's confinement. She and Chloe jumped into the vehicle soon as we opened the doors... Chloe followed us back and forth helping herd the luggage... but Em called dibs on her spot and stayed there an hour. I had to made her take one last walk b4 we started LOL

The girls are enjoying the trip to the mountains - cooler here...

Isn't it lovely when you can holiday with your Corgi. I have often rented a house at a holiday destination for annual holidays and on other occasions, and of course I - or my wife - have either soft talked the owner into accepting a small, well mannered Pem or else I have located someone who will accept a small, house trained dog anyway. On occasions I have been able to keep in-house my Corgi at a quality hotel/motel - the better quality, more expensive the hotel, the more likely they will accept a Corgi. On these kind of holidays, it certainly pays just to have the one dog and a small one at that.

Well gang I am about to try my first transmission of pictures in a thread. Unfortunately these if they come out are just plain ol pictures of Ruby in the house we rented. One shows her huge bushy tail which can be used to sweep the kitchen floor and the other shows Ruby giving me a big kiss. Here goes...
