Hi All,
I love this forum. But I know you all love your corgis more. I would like to know why you all chose a corgi as a companion/friend/dog? I have my very first corgi who is 7 months old. I chose him because I always loved the sturdy and short shaped dog. I didn't even know his breed until I started to do some heavy searching. I was going to be a responsible and knowledgeable owner. I wanted to know everything about the corgi. I find him a great fit - good temperament, smart, agile, sweet nature, and extremely adorable. I went to the breeder and picked up Milo because he was more curious and energetic than his brother. His brother was sweet but more shy. My fiance wanted both of them but I know we couldn't handle it. Why did you choose a corgi?

I was with my daughter, Sara, it was around Thanksgiving (November)...we left one store and had to go to Wallmart to get some more groceries. There was a lady in a pick~up truch with a huge sign, "CORGI PUPPIES...for sale". At first.....we just wanted to "look" at the cute puppies. Ya right !! Next think I knew...I wanted BOTH Midnight & Sunshine !! * They were only $150.00 each ** I had NO CLUE about anything regarding this wonderful breed ! I was CLUELESS... So, I called a vet...and eventually found THIS WEBSITE...and... wait ... What was the QUESTION ?? (kidding...) I adopted Midnight & Sunshine...BECAUSE.. I fell in love with BOTH of them! *~* Nikki

Riding horses Ive always been around corgis. When I was 8 I met my real first corgi love,a little fat red/white female. I knew her for 3 years until we moved, then almost every barn since then has had 1. I am finally getting my own corgi next week
I just love them, short little legs, their smiles...I guess I chose one because I am in love with the breed |

My husband and I knew we wanted to get a puppy because there was a good possibility that he was going to have to work second-shift, and I HATE being alone. I had toyed with the idea of getting a pug or a chihuahua, both dogs my husband was not particularly fond of. He would randomly throw out different breed types to try and get me to change my mind, and then one day, he suggested the corgi. Now, I had never considered getting a corgi; I hadn't even ever seen one in person, but I was curious. We ended up stopping by a mall pet store two weeks later on a whim, and wouldn't you know it, there was one red and white pem girl who had been priced slashed because she had been there so long. I took it as a sign, so we got her out and played with her; I even considered buying her even though everything I read had said never to buy a pet store puppy, but I fought the urge. I went home and researched and researched the pem and in doing so, found the cardi, which seemed to fit us much better. Then I started looking for good breeders for a few months and in April, Dudley came home to us--all the way from Arkansas! The rest, is history!
P.S. I think this is a GREAT thread! |

When I was living in Australia in 1979 (yikes!) I became friends with a couple who had a Corgi. I'd never met one before but he always stuck in my mind, I loved the look and the character. I grew up with St. Bernards and cats, but living in an apartment in a city with very hot summers a Saint is not a good choice. When I finally decided to get a dog 6 years ago I remembered my little Corgi friend, did some research to see if the breed would be a good match for my lifestyle and they did. I even got two eventually - better than one - LOVE 'EM!!!!!

There are dogs and then there are Corgis. Truly a gift from the fairies. When you are owned by a corgi, you are truly blessed. I had a corgi mix and fell in love with the breed. They are the most loving, loyal, talented, intelligent breed I have ever seen and when they look at you, your heart melts. I can't imagine life without one.

When I was 10, my best friend had a red & white female Pem, and I thought she was just the cutest thing ever.
~~now, of course, I know I was wrong, because Jackie is the cutest thing ever! ~~ Meeting her and playing with her made me fall in love with corgis, and I spent the next 22+ years researching the breed. I figured, if I couldn't have one yet, I may as well learn all there is to know about them & (hopefully) satisfy my corgi craving. Of course, the more I learned, the more I loved. And as soon as my husband (then fiance) and I moved into our new home (which took dogs, a pre-requisite while we were house hunting), we started calling breeders on the PWCCA website. I finally found one who was planning to breed in the month after our wedding, and plopped myself right down on her waiting list! Then Dillon's mom STOLE my puppy (just kidding Emilie! ), so I got Jackie from the very next litter!

I had never seen nor heard of a Corgi until January of 2002. I was home from work, ill and was channel surfing when I came upon a dog show, the Corgi was being shown....I was spellbound. I immediately went to the computer to do more research. I hadn't been thinking of a dog, but that short stocky body and precious face had me convinced....I needed a CORGI in my life!!! Honestly, I prayed about it, and one Friday in March a woman called me at my office and said she "heard" I wanted a Corgi, I couldn't believe my ears. I went to her farm after work and fell in love with Rowdy at first sight, he was only 4 weeks old and precious. The next four weeks were misery, I went out to the farm two or three times, just to see him, I couldn't wait to get him home. Finally that day came and my life has been better since! Rowdy is fun and funny, incredibly smart and personable. Everyone loves him, he's the best dog anyone could ever want. I pray that someday, I will be blessed with a Tri-color Pem.....because life is too short not to have more than one Corgi in your life! Theresa

I too was watching the tube and saw a corgi being shown. We had always had big dogs. It had been 3 yrs since our GSD had passed and I wanted another dog in our life. I started researching the breed and knew right away a corgi would be a perfect fit for our family. Now 3 yrs latter I have 2 corgi's, they have brought such joy to my life I know I will never be without this wonderful breed.

We are true loyal corgi lovers. After I got Milo, I started finding out many people actually owned or still own a corgi. One co-worker of mine had a corgi and golden retriever mix. Her dog lived up to 16 years. That is a pretty mix! Then I had a friend of a friend who had a corgi who is 3 years old now. His name is shorty for his small stature! But, Corgis are so energetic, strong, and muscular! They are a small little dog but big in heart.
We also have a neighbor who has a dog name Foxy for the corgi's foxy appearance. I'm also in the process of finding a new home and a lot of them restrict dogs. Some don't but I'm afraid of Milo's barking that we will get kicked out! How can this be solved? I'm glad everyone liked the thread! |

I think I seen my first corgi on tv. It was a disney movie with a cat and a r/w corgi and I think it was called Murdered She Pured. I thought that dog was incredibly cute and since then I had admired those little dogs. Then when I was out riding with my parents (several years ago), I seen a couple walking an adult corgi an a half grown one. You see there not very popular here. Once in a while, you will see one. So then, when I could get my a dog and it had to be a small one, I narrowed my choices to a Corgi or Daushand (sp?). But I read where the daushands are somewhat stubborn and hard to train, I went with the little corgi. My mom kept saying oh corgis are big dogs, there not small and yatah yatah. I kept telling her no, there small. And finally I won and I could get a corgi. But I had to get ride of my previous one due to that we moved. But now I have another since we asked our land lord if we can have a dog and here comes my new baby. I just love their big ears, stubby legs and their bunny butts. To me there a dog that isnt too big and isnt too small. Just the perfect size if you ask me

These are all such WONDERFUL stories! (Nikki: I CANNOT believe you got your Sunshine and Midnight in a WALMART parking lot! That is amazing and definitely destiny!!)
I became aware of Corgis by way of Tasha Tudor's drawings and photos of her Corgis. 18 years ago we had a houseful of little children and no money, so when a friend's PW Corgi had a litter of (...oops) "mixed" pups the price was right - FREE! Wimsey was a "Corgi" thru and thru despite his father's unknown breed. He had perfect Tri coloring, a slightly heavier body, his legs were just a little long and he had a marvelous tail! When he was naughty we scolded him and told him he "wasn't a REAL Corgi"!! He "herded" the children around the yard until they grew up and was a loyal companion for 15 years. After Wimsey died I SWORE I would NEVER have another dog - it was so painful to lose him!! ...well, a year passed and a Corgi's photo appeared in our local paper - the dog was at the animal shelter, looking for a home!! I called too late - he was already adopted, but it seemed like a "sign", because a few days later there was an ad for Corgi pups at a nearby farm!! I visited the pups and realized I might be able to make room in my heart for another dog... After much discussion we began the search...which eventually led us to our darling ChloeLouise!! We would never consider another breed after being owned by a Corgi!! We love the sass and spunk and "big dog attitude"! And who could possibly resist that bright, foxy face and fluffy rump! Margo |

I had never heard of a Corgi before 1993 when I moved with my husband and kids to Grand Island Nebraska. Our last dog had been a big dog. We had just
adopted two cats from the Humane Society and I felt lost without a dog because I grew up with dogs. I went to the Humane Society and was being shown Boxer puppies, which I thought were cute, but really wasn't wanting a puppy at that time. The lady then brought out this Corgi, who was around 2 and had told me that she had been at the shelter for 2 weeks and that they found her roaming in the country. Well, her personality was so sweet and she was so calm and good natured and I just could not leave her at that place. My husband was out of town on a business trip, but I brought her home anyway(She slept in bed with me for the 5 days that he was gone) and the rest was history. She gave us 11 1/2 years of love and devotion and when she passed away this December, I knew that I had to have another one of these endearing breeds. Linda |
