Sorry Michael,
you don't have me convinced on that one. If you have a bunch of socks and you let your dog have one or two, I think he or she will just grab any pair next time they see them laying on the floor. I just think if one is trying to break the habit of their dog chewing on their personal items, be it socks, shoes or undergarmets, why offer them at all? Linda |

My wife wants a tattoo but only if I get one too.
My daughter says that Nikki's angel wings etc would go better on her back, but I dunno. It looks pretty cool to me and nicely poised. What do the words represent? Last edited by Michael Romanos; 08-13-2006 at 11:59 PM. |

*~* Okay, I am a NERD~ETTE !! I actually went to Wallmart and bought a package of socks for my puppies ! YES...I did ! I tie a knot at the end where the toes are supposed to go. Midnight & Sunshine play with them for hours. I throw them away IF they get torn. *~* Nikki

*~* I have my children's names on either side...inside the ribbon (Kyle), (Sara) Inside the circle on the bottom of my tatt...it says, "my angels". Michael, tell your daughter...that YES, IT DID HURT !! The outline is what hurts the most. But, after the first 10-20 minutes...you get kinda numb to it. Well, I did. I want another tattoo on my lower back ! I am a spiritual girl (Christian) and I would love something that represents my faith. *~* Nikki

Nikki - you are getting better by the minute. Go for it - socks and all.
I will always maintain that a typical Corgi has the intelligence to know what is rightfully his/hers. The smell alone means so much apart from any visual aspects. Dogs can produce images in their minds of things they smell. That is one of the reasons why smelling for a dog is so important and such a great activity for them. |

Okay Michael,
Why don't you test it. Buy 5 pairs of the same white socks and tie each pair together. Let Taylor play with only one pair for a week. Then throw all 5 pair on the floor and see if he only chooses the one he was allowed to play with. Let me know. linda |

This sounds to me like obedience competition or something I have seen perform on New Zealand's Wonder Dogs television series. Part of Wonder Dogs competition was in having to choose only the cloth or whatever that they have been associated with before and not any of the others which were the same size, texture and colour. But of course, there are countless dogs everywhere in the world who are given an old slipper or shoe to play with or chew on and these dogs would not be expected to treat other slippers, shoes etc in the same way.
Mind you. if you send me five pairs of socks - size 8 shoes (European measurement) I wear - I'll gladly do as you wish and relay the results to you. I am truly confident that Taylor can distinguish between 'his' socks and other similar socks. This reminds me of the story I wrote about Harley, a German Shepherd ( Jane Austen has read this story in my book) who would sort out pairs of socks that had just been washed and dried, and put them away in drawers. He could open the drawers in each bedroom, place each pair of socks in the correct drawer belonging to each of his owners and their two children, and close each drawer again after finishing. I knew Harley - he lived very close to where I lived some years ago. Last edited by Michael Romanos; 08-14-2006 at 05:07 AM. |

Ok my 2 cents:
Rhys has 1 particular "toy" that he loves to play with. I recently had an old pair of jeans that fit ok but were always a little short in the ankle. I decided one hot summer day a while back to cut them off. I gave the discarded piece of jeans to Rhys and he pranced around the house like he got something special. He has yet to grab any other jeans or clothing. When he does find a stray piece of clothing he runs away to try and hide with it and one stern "Rhys drop it!" and he lets it go and holds his head down. Rhys knows every time he has something that he is not supposed to have. Rhys is only 4 months old right now and is acutely aware of what "toys" are his. Distinguishing between toys and other unacceptable items is not a problem for this brilliant breed. Keep at it and always be consistant and your little one will catch on.
