I see your point guys, however,

Natalie is having a problem with her dog chewing up her personal items. This is a puppy, as is Rhys, but doesn't seems to understand that taking and chewing up personal items is a "no, no" - she isn't offereing these things, but her dog is still doing it - so my message to her initially was if she comes upon her dog with the item, to sternly say "drop it" while removing it from her mouth and to offer her one of her own dog toys. Robby stated that he is already practicing this.

While Michael may be right that a dog can distinguish which sock is okay for them to chew on based on scent, In my own opinion, at this point for her, I don't think that allowing her dog to chew on any of her personal items is helpful to what she is trying to accomplish; would not make sense in her case.

Natalie,

It can work with consistency, and like I said before, if you are not going to be around, then put these items behind closed doors when she can't get to them.

Linda

T-Gal,

Cody loves his stuffed animals, and he has a few and if given the chance, he will also take my daughters animals off her bed also.

I must be crazy to jump in on this, but . . . .

I agree that for a puppy who is having trouble distinguishing "hers" from "yours", restricting access to off-limits items is important. I had also read that dogs often do this as a form of separation anxiety. They miss you, and so they seek out items with your smell and, whether intentionally or not, usually end up destroying them. I am one of those who didn't give my puppy old socks/shoes of ours, because I thought it would be too confusing for her to sort out which things she is allowed to chew and which she is not. One solution to this would be to buy NEW socks and give them to the puppy - as they will not have your scent on them, and will be easier to distinguish.

Nikki - anywhere near the spine is the MOST painful place to get a tattoo. One of mine is on my back, and it was the most painful one I have! (just a caution!)

Trust me - my first one was on my ankle - it's NOTHING compared to the spinal area!

As long as your corgi doesn't start chewing ON your tattoo, you're good!

Corgi's are not necessarily like other dogs, but for my 2 cents worth. Long ago my parents had a dashhund who used to chew ONLY soiledsocks, crotches out of underwear, or slacks, armpits off of blouses, bras, etc, but ONLY the spots where body odor was strongest. My suggestion, get a laundry hamper and don't leave soiled garments within reach. As for shoes, I'd keep them in their boxes and on the closet shelf. Chances are less that the dog will want clean clothes to chew on. As for what she can chew on, give her dog toys or something more appropriate that she knows is just hers. Good luck. ~Shelly

I agree with Barbara and T-Gal

Your Stumpy is just too young to be left out roaming freely if she is being so destructive and like Barbara said "Chewing on wires can be dangerous or fatal"

My cat chewed through a lamp wire and luckily I was home, but it was sparking and I could smell it burning (Cody actually alerted me to this)

I would get her one of those play yards like Barbara has or put her in a laundry room or first floor bathroom behind a baby gate(not a closed door) I would remove any throw rugs or things that could tip over and also, anything from the waste basket. Leave her some toys in there, some Kongs filled with treats and other things to keep her busy. Put on some soothing music for her when you are gone. I don't know what else to suggest. If your laundry room
or first floor bathroom is large enough, you could put her open crate in there if she would rather like that, but she would still have some freedom to come out of the crate and move around. Are you gone all day at work, or do you come home during the lunch hour to check on them?, or do you know of someone who may be able to pop in for 15 to 30 minutes a day to check in on what is going on?

Do you know this song?

Corgis and tattoos and wild, wild women.
They'll drive you nuts. They'll drive you insane.
Corgis and tattoos and wild, wild women.
They'll wreck your home and cause you pain.

Ah, the bored Corgi who doesn't appreciate the value of what he/she doesn't own. Beware of the bored Corgi and having the run of the house. Take measures for a less bored dog and close him/her out of the no-go zone.
