I know you said that you leave Stumpy out in the yard unattended, and not sure what your circumstances are, but is there anyway that anyone could take her if they wanted too?? & What if she got stung by a wasp or bee also and you were not around? and she had a reaction. My last Pem was either bitten by a spider or bee and had a terrible reaction to it and luckily I was there to notice it and get her to the vet right away

there isn't anyone....my roommate works graveyard shifts and i work day shifts so...there is an 8hr or so period of time when she is unattended during the day....i work swing shifts, and i want her to be able to go potty when i'm gone instead of being in the crate all day...if its for shorter periods of time she can go in the crate, but not when i am gone at work...i work from 2pm to 10pm most days....so bella is in the yard from around 1:45pm till whenever my roommate wakes up (usually around six or seven)...then she is in the crate from 9:30 intil i get home at 10:30 or so....my roommate has a dog too, so bella is not all alone outside...its not for extended periods of time and i am not worried about bugs and stuff, because of where i live...we don't really have any...only really ants, and some daddy long legs spiders, and fleas...that was a really long explanation

Gee whizz Stumpy. You should be able to leave your little Miss Mischief Corgi all day long in a safe, fenced in yard and not worry about "the birds and the bees and the flowers and the trees."
Some Go Corgi people probably worry too much. They might have read about the same tragedy that I did many years ago. A guy in the USA, was sitting in the yard of his property behind a high fence and would have felt perfectly safe and peacefully relaxed. A passing car suddenly lost a wheel, and it flew over this high fence and killed the poor unsuspecting man sitting on his deck chair, sipping from a glass of his favourite beverage. You never know when your time is up. So don't worry too much. Give a Corgi a break. Give yourself a break. Last edited by Michael Romanos; 08-17-2006 at 02:36 AM. |

Unfortunately for my past Corgi, the bee/bug bite and swelling of the face wasn't just a possible worry, it did happen.
About a month or so ago, someone had posted that they were looking for another Corgi because their other one had been stolen from their yard while it was out during the day- I can't remember who that was - does anyone remember? |

Right Linda - I'm not going to ever take my Corgi out to a park because a bee might sting him and he's never going to sit by our babbling brook in our property because who knows what insect is lurking around and he is never going to drink from our stream and have the odd paddle because the stream does have fresh water crayfish and the odd native eel.
Never mind someone stealing a dog from a backyard. It happened in New Zealand only two weeks ago. A burglar or burglars broke into a house and all they took of any great vaue was the little family dog. The owners and their children have publicly said for the burglar/s to keep whatever else they took but please give us our dog back. So folk - don't leave your Corgi in the house either. |

Michael,
Your a journalist, right, I'd hate to have you do my life story, I am not sure what would come out in print. I would have to have a tape recorder going to back up what I said. Did I recommend NEVER to take our Corgis outside for fresh air and fun?? I went back to my original posting to Stumpy; where did I say that??? You think that I never take Cody outside for walks and play for fear of a bee sting? or being stolen? He spends lots of time outdoors, with me or with someone else around. I was not recommending that anyone keep their dogs indoors 24/7, where did you get that idea from?? Oh, but I had forgotten that you do leave Taylor outside unattended at establishments that you patronizie in New Zealand; if that were here in Wisconsin, Taylor would have a new family by now. The bug incident was something that happened to my last Pem who did have a reaction to the bug bite or bee sting with swelling to her face that needed immediate attention to. The likelihood of that happening to someone else, maybe small, but obviously, possible. Had she been out on her own unattended to, for several hours, I wonder what would have happened? For me personally, even if my yard was fenced in, I am not one that would feel comfortable leaving my dog out there for hours at a time if I was not home - but that is me and my "worrying too much" as you had mentioned. There were several dogs stolen this spring from the Madison area right out of their yards and the owners did not get them back... a couple of them, where the owners were home, and they think it was the same guy who was doing this by sightings of the same vehicle after these incidents happened, so I wonder what he was up to? And I am wondering Michael, how long do you leave Taylor to sit outside for hours on end, without you or some other family member checking on him? And yes, if Michael feels that we should never leave our dogs in the house when we are gone, than I guess I am now forever homebound; Cody is going to be so disappointed, no more outdoor fun; I will let him know that was your idea; more time for online shopping. Time to get this thread back to the initial subject discussion- Corgis and Chewing Last edited by corgimom; 08-17-2006 at 08:21 AM. |

I certainly didn't think that Linda was recommending the keeping of dogs inside at all times, she was merely telling us a story about something that happened to her. That's allowed, no?
Okay - I just deleted everything else I typed. I'm stopping here. Just thought I needed to voice my support.

Holy Cow People!
This is the wierdest thread I've seen yet on GoCorgi - you've been all around the world and back! Stumpy - back to you - a couple of things for bored destructive Corgi pups: 1. A treat ball - to roll around while tiny pieces of treats fall out. 2. I saved all the cracker, cereal, - any kind of small packaging boxes I could when my two were in the same phase and would put in a small treat and tape it all up with packing tape - they would spend forever opening them up -and they've never broken in to my cupboards and attacked full boxes to this day.
