Hi Alberta
Welcome to Go Corgis. Hope you sell your pups to good homes and all the new owners become members of our website.
How do you manage to keep the puppies and their parents cool in such hot weather that Florida must be experiencing at the moment.

Hi, Yes it is very hot here during the day. the corgis are kept inside in the aircondition and are very spoiled. they only go out in the morning for about 3 hours before it gets to hot. they also have a big fan on the outside of their pen which they love to lay near. I also freeze gallon jugs of water and put a couple in the pen with them. they love laying up against them or on them. I will then bring them in the house from about 11am until 6 pm(with the exception of a potty break when they wake up from their nap) I leave them out in the evening until I go to bed at about 10:30 at witch time I bring them in for the night. they are great about not going to the bathroom in the xpen in the house all night. they are 7 weeks old and very spoiled. I am going to have to make sure that the new owners know that they are not used to being out in the heat and must be inside during the day.
thanks Alberta

And the OFA or Penn Hip rating? CERF rating? vWD status?

I often get request for puppy referrals and that information is always good to have.

Alberta,

Could you please let me know what your health guarantee is? and do people have to sign a contract with you? I am assuming they do and that your buyers will have to spay/neuter their dogs and your contract will specify that. Will they be checked over by a vet before going home with a new owner?

They all look so nice, I am surprised that you do not have a list of people already taking them.

Alberta - you seem so well organised. I guess breeding puppies comes more naturally to women than men because of the mother qualities. Beating the heat rap is a huge part of making Corgis happy. In NZ it is always best for a dog mother to have her pups in the summer because the warm weather suits pups better than our cold winters do late Autumn and early spring are ok too. But we don't often have really hot summers in NZ - we go to Australia or the other Pacific islands for that. Mind you, when a Corgi gets out of being a puppy, cold weather is no problem - that's what their coats are designed for.

A lot of the questions been asked of this breeder by some other Go Corgi members about the litter she has bred, could be asked in sending her private emails.

You're missing the educational opportunty here Michael. One thing breeders often do on other forums or lists is ask the questions asked here. Contract information is exchanged, what health guarantees are offered so that individuals can improve on their own contracts for one example.
In fact on many other lists, litter announcements go along these lines: XYZ Kennel is pleased to announce a new litter out of CH. XYZ's I'm a Cute Corgi (call name Cutie-Pie). Proud papa is CH. ABC's I'm a Handsome Guy (call name Handsome).

When doing referrals (and yes even in NC I get lookers and inquiries from FL) conscientious potential buyers do want to know the results of the health tests of the parents. This type information for GoCorgi members is educational in that it may help someone be more discriminating in their choice of a breeder for a future corgi.

That's the bigger picture.

Quite simply: if someone advises that Corgi pups are for sale then if one is interested they will contact the breeders as the breeders have suggested and can then ask away to their hearts content on such things as lineage, registration, ratings etc.

Then Barbara, if you don't believe in corresponding by private emails where appropriate, why do you use the private email system of Go Corgi to send me messages?
