Great thread.....

My son named Darci. I think he actually got it from a fantasy book he was reading.

As far as Egan goes, a lot of the corgi members watched me stuggle for about 3 weeks trying to choose a good welsh name. It was between Keegan and Egan my hubby liked Egan best.

Thank goodnesss we finally decided or he would still be little man.

Well, since I was the one who was advocating for a puppy, when my husband suggested a name I JUMPED on it!! I figured that meant HE was interested TOO!! I had been referring to the "potential puppy" as "Zelda" but was not getting a lot of familial support ....Actually, I think the name Chloe sort of came from the TV show "24", which we were feverishly involved in at the time. The Louise part of her name - I don't actually know why I added that . And this space is entirely too small to add all the silly nicknames we call her! "Chlo-ears" "Fritzy" "Skritch"...the ridiculous list goes on and on!!

Our first dog (a tri colored Corgi-mix) was named for the P.D. James character Lord Peter Wimsey - again my husband's choice (I REALLY had to negociate for that puppy! soI was willing to name time ANYTHING in order to bring him home!)

Barbara, I have a name already in the wings for our "next puppy", too! "Arthur" - altho my daughter wants "Jack"!

BTW, I love this thread and am anxious to hear more stories!

Margo

Cheyenne was a tough one to name... I just couldn't think of anything. One day, I was going through a book with all the state names and their capitals and when I saw Cheyenne it felt right so that's what I picked. Now we have morphed her name into Chey-Chey (shy-shy).

Checkers, on the other hand was easy to pick. One look at his marking on his scruff explains it all.

Edit to add: His registered name is: Rockin Gin's Check Mate

I have no idea why I picked the name Dudley (absolutely no affiliation to the Canadian Mounty Dudley DoRight...you wouldn't believe how many people ask). Anyways, I first saw a picture of him and his brothers at 1 day old, how cute they all were, but obviously had no clue which would be mine. Then, at six weeks, the breeder sent me a picture of MY puppy. As soon as I saw him, I knew his name would be Dudley. It was perfect! He also has a series of ridiculous nicknames: DuddleBug, Doodleybear, The Dude, DuddelyMuddely, Big Guy...the list goes on and on.

If I ever get another cardi, his name will either be Elvis or Bosco. Dudley does this thing with his lips where they kind of puff out on the sides, I don't know if his lip gets stuck on his teeth, or what, but anyways, it looks just like a face Elvis would do...funny stuff

We struggled with what to name "Cody" and actually had considered Dudley, Duncan and Dewey. I wanted Dewey, but the rest of the family came up with Cody - his name given by the breeder was "Forrest", which I actually like, but was trying to picture myself calling him that.

I had read somewhere where it is good to give a shorter name with an "E" sounding at the end - so my pets were Betsy, Billy, Ernie, Willie(a past dog),& now Cody - but my other cat is Owen(so I did not follow suit there)

I have enjoyed hearing all the names that everyone has given their pets.

However, not in regards to Corgis, if I get two cats again, I think I will name them Squiggy and Shirley,(from the show Laverne and Shirley); or maybe a Corgi named Squiggy? would not be so bad.

Ready for my list?

Our first corgi was Springshire's Blue Mystique (Misty). I really liked her breeders' method of naming puppies. She had a littermates named Patch O'Blue (Patty), Bardic Lullaby (Lily). Another litter was Carrousel (Carrie), Jumping Jack (Jacque-O), Merry-Go-Round (Merry). One of Misty's puppies was named Optimum Blue (Opie). Lots of blue merle CWC's in the mix here.

Back to my guys:
My first PWC puppy was named Whisperwyn's Oberon's Spell (Obie - short for Oberon, not Obi-Wan-Ka-Nobi from Star Wars)
Weefolks Titania's Wild Thyme followed. (Ti)
Their pups included Wild Thyme's Sabrina Faire (Sabrina, Bri)
And Wild Thyme Adam's Wee Lass - Dunston (aka Dunnie, Dunnie Hunnie Bunnie) Adam is my nephew, she was his keeper and the movie Dunston Checks In was popular at the time.
We've had Cornerstone's I'm For Love (Immie)
There's Fine Creek's Court Jester (Jesse named for the black markings around his eyes)
Then there is Garvin's Fiddle Faddle PWC (Fiddle, named w/a musical theme of sorts because of her sire's registered and call name)
Also there's Garvins What's Your Name (Puddn' from the children's nursery rhyme "What's your name? Pudding N tane, Ask me again and I'll tell you the same")
His daughter, Faeriesteed of Mab at Deedles (Mab)
Her dam was Fine Creek's Salt Water Taffy (Taffy)
New baby here is Faeriesteed's Crunch and Munch (Munchie or Munchee depending upon who is spelling it <G>)
The baby, baby in the family is likely going to be Faeriesteed's Blue Monkey call name Buckus given to him by the nephews.

I do have one special name I am saving for a puppy to come someday. I've alway wanted to use Puck, but Oberon has given me enough mischief , so I'm wary of that one.

I like Rhys of course: Welsh meaning eager or ardent

Rhy's full name is "Sir Rhys Ivy of the Highlands"
Ivy because we have Ivy all over our complex here. We live in Midtown atlanta but in a very wooded area and Rhys LOVES to play in the Ivy. The neighborhood we live in is called Virginia Highlands and also the name Pembroke I have reasearched to mean "of the headlands" so we thought "of the Highlands" would be good.

Smile *~* Names... - 08-20-2006, 10:35 AM

*~* Sunshine: was named after my very special cat.

Midnight: She is tri~colored...mostly black & I wanted names that kinda fit together.

** Other names that I liked were: Hershey & Reeces (like the candies),
Pepper & Cinnamon, Bailey & Kahlua', Madori & Martini, Harley & Mercedes..

{ I am happy with the names that I chose though. Midnight & Sunshine seem to like their names, too !! They "come" whe I call them... }

Trevor was the result of going through a lengthy list of good Welsh/English names that were both easy to pronounce and spell (for the benefit of others, like the staff at the vet's office, etc.) Since we live in San Diego, most people ask if we named him after Trevor Hoffman, the Padres ace closer. Nope, we just loved the name and love the dog, and it fits his personality

I chose Abby because this time I wanted a definite female name as my previous pets names have all been ambiguous.
Also, as I knew I would be discussing my problems with her, then it would be very appropriate for her to be named for the 'Dear Abby' column.

Previous Pets who were female, but everyone thought they were male because of their names.

Irish Setter...................Terry..............Pedigr ee Name 'Lady Moira Kilpatrick of Mourne'

German Shepherd.........Rommel.........(Well, there was a Mrs Rommel, wasn't there) Pedigree Name 'Beautrae Alpine'

Tabby Cat.....................Alex..............Short for Alexandra

Burmese Cat.................Trompie.........From the Dutch surname Tromp
