Well said Deb, and the point about recommending other breeders is very true! When I was searching for a corgi, all of the breeders I contacted through the PWCCA / local breed clubs were willing to recommend other breeders whom they thought might have pups available before they did. Very good indicator of where their interests lie, and I'm glad you brought it up!

[quote=Jespah]I just checked Dogster and there are 11 Pembroke Corgis on the site that live in Utah, including Checkers and Delilah, who's owners are members here. I'd be happy to email all of these owners to see if they could recommend the breeder they went to. (If they did, in fact, get their dog from a breeder.) QUOTE]
I would not recommend the breeder I got Delilah from! I don't know much about them, but of the 7 puppies that were to be born, only Delilah and 2 of the male puppies were actually born and lived. The mother dog died because the 4th puppy was turned sideways and she could not deliver it. They didn't get her to the vet in time to save her. Also, Delilah has a hernia. I didn't get any information regarding her other than this (and her shot record). I knew nothing about the vWD until I read it here. Please - if you want a corgi puppy - ask Glencorgi or one of the other senior members here where the best place to get a good pet quality corgi from! I love Delilah to death and she is basically healthy, but I worry about what will happen down the road, since she was hand-raised. I am having her spayed/hernia fixed on the 16th just to make sure there are no puppies from her bloodline. (By the way - she is CKC registered - not AKC). |

How did I miss this post?? As for finding a Utah breeder, if anyone else comes along looking the best I could do at this point is to second glencorgi's advise to check out http://www.utahcorgis.com/. Good group of people there and I'm sure someone in the bunch can put you in touch with a quality breeder.
I have to admit I get tired of the standard response to look at the national breed website because there are no breeders there... and no regional club listed (at least last time I looked) for Utah... so it makes people feel like their only option is to pay out the wazoo to ship a puppy in from out of state, or to go to a BYB or such. Don't get me wrong... the national breed website can be a vital tool for getting started, and finding out what to look for if you are new to dogs in general, but if there are no breeders nearby listed it can also just frustrate a person looking for a dog. Anyhow... this post is old and therefore probably long since relavent for the person that started it... so no use hacking it out a bunch now. -Cheryl |

And Cheryl if you will look further up in this thread you will find a post from me which did recommend the Utah Corgis site and addressed your concerns of only using the PWCCA membership.

(...Sorry this is TOTALLY off topic, but, Cheryl and Debbie, I just took a look at that WONDERFUL Utah Corgis website!! It is well worth visiting even if you are thousands of miles from Utah and not searching for a puppy!! Thanks for the link!)

Margo,
Lori has done a WONDERFUL job with it hasn't she? I'll pass the compliment along to those behind the scenes. I was just talking with Peggy tonight and I know she'll appreciate the news. Debbie |
