Belroyd - I'm sure the Queen will comply with the law of the land re the docking of tails. If she felt so strongly about the issue, she could emigrate to NZ (and become the Governor General) where docking is still allowed and if a ban was imposed, there would be exemptions.
I have seen Pems with tails and the tails don't curl over or look out of place - but the tails might do so I suppose, should the Pems get excited. It is one of the world's great mysteries (the eighth wonder of the world maybe) why Pems have their tails docked and Cardigans do not, when one considers the history of the docking of tails of farm working dogs. |

Deb, maybe you can educate me more on this... I have noticed on KatC's dog Abby, that her tail doesn't curl up; so they only do if they are excited

And here is a link that I found that mentions Blands Kennel at the bottom of the article. I was just searching the web for Corgi things and came across this. |

The picture Belroyd posted is spot on in being a correctly set tail and carriage in an alert/happy/and up undocked Pem with correct rear structure. This is one carriage that can be seen. Relaxed and at ease, the tail can be lower. This is what I have been taught by international breeder judge specialists. At our June specialty club picnic, we had a very informative time going over the various corgis in attendance under her guidance. One of the corgis we went over was an undocked Finnish import b*tch with correct rear structure, tail set and carriage. Pembroke tails are not supposed to stream out behind like Cardigan tails do, nor or Cardigan tails supposed to be carried high, over the back and curled (which isn't saying I haven't seen CWC's with such tails). Tail sets are supposed to be high and the tail will be carried high. Think of other Spitz breeds you know of and the variations of their tails. Abby, KatC's tailed Pem in some of the photos she's shared, if you will notice the tail is up and over her back, what in CWC's would be called a gay tail and a fault for that breed. Others, it is more down and relaxed. While it is very hard to tell from pictures alone, it appears Abby's tail set might be a little lower than what would be "correct" in Pembrokes, allowing her to carry it further down. At this point with undocked Pembroke tails, there is an element of lack of uniformity and any number of sets, lengths, and carriages can be found and seen. Now it should be kept in mind the disclaimer on these comments is that I am talking about what is called for in the standard of the breed, "perfection" and that there is no such thing as a perfect dog of any breed. Mother Nature always has the last word and last laugh, especially with breeders who are trying to breed responsibly to the standard. Debbie |

If Gizmo had a tail, it would've been stepped on, rolled on, and generally would get in the way. He's always underfoot, and he has gotten some of his fur rolled on my computer chair. I try to keep him out of the way, I don't want to hurt him. One of my other dogs who is about the size of a collie, will clear off the coffee table with her tail! Look out! Don't leave your cup close to the edge!

Wow, thanks so much to tall for answering my questions. This explains a lot. Now, if I can find out if Milo was naturally borned with his small tail. But I probably can't find out. But I do have to say, their small tails or tailess bodies are so adorable!
