Rhys is getting a sister! - 09-24-2006, 05:07 PM

Rhys and I went to the Greater Houston Pembroke Welsh Corgi Fanciers' fall funday today (where Rhys won the prettiest eyes competition...thankyouverymuch).

I ran into his breeder, who brought his tricolor littermate Andrea. She had kept Andrea as a potential showdog, but unfortunately Andrea is a small corgi (less than 20 pounds at a year, but she is precious). Also the breeder, Karen, has produced a litter a year for about 20 years and she wants to take a break from the breeding biz for awhile. So she said that she was going to find Andrea a new home. Of course, I HAD to ask "how much are you selling her for?" and...um, yeah....to make a long story short....Andrea, Rhys's only sister, is going to be joining our little pack in about a week or two. Karen is going to have her spayed this week, then transfer her to me once she's healed up.

I'm such a sucker. You can't have just one, can you?

Anyway, I've heard a lot of people say that having two is better because they can keep each other company. And it is better to introduce a sibling earlier than later, I assume...?

Congratulations to you and how exciting. I don't think I would have been able to resist that offer either.

Of course, you must post pictures when Andrea arrives

YAY for Disreali and Rhys!!!

I'm sure you know my opinion on having two - I don't think you're a scker at all! You can't believe how much better Rupe is doing now that he has Jem in his life.

It may take a little adapting and patience but Rhys will soon be enjoying the company as well as the frapping!

I wanted to go to the fall funday but DH we stayed too late at Sunday school and DH was leaving for LA today so I didn't go. Liam and I would have loved to meet Rhys and Andrea. How fun!

Congrats on the new addition. I had Golden sibs for 13.5 years and it was grand. DH made me promise one-dog-at-a-time when my last Golden goes. But I had my fingers crossed when I promised.

Liam and I are going to get herding instinct tested on Wednesday. I'm full of anticipation. I hope he likes it.

Bayoucorgi - good luck on the herding! that sounds like it would be so cool!

Disreali - are you going to keep her name Andrea or call her something else?

Being they are littermates the time span they have been a part is going to is going to be a good thing. The time to add a second dog is when you the human are ready and much too depends upon the dog already in the home as to how they get a long with other dogs. This will should work out fine.

Bayoucorgi - hey! Welcome to another Houston corgi! Too bad you couldn't make it. Make we can have a FRAP visit sometime? Do you go to any of the dog parks?

TGal - Yes, I will keep her name Andrea, since she has had it so long. BUT...I think I will call her Andy, because it's cuter and less of a mouthful.

Congrats! That is so very exciting. I think having two is going to be so much fun! My hubby and I are really seriously thinking about a second corgi next year ( same lines as Dillon). I think two is great, they can wear each other out! As i say, what could be better than one corgi? Two!!!!
