I understand - I'll try and sort it out. They were all rated on various features and then given an over all rating.
E= excellent, VG= very good, G= good, F= fair, P= poor The Kenmore was: Cleaning carpet: E Cleaning bare floors: E Cleaning with tools: VG Ease of use: G Noise: G Emissions: E Overall Rating: 76 The Dyson Model DC15 The Ball was: Cleaning carpet: G Cleaning bare floors: E Cleaning with tools: G Ease of use: G Noise: G Emissions: E Overall Rating: 65 The Dyson DC07 All Floors: Cleaning carpet: G Cleaning bare floors: E Cleaning with tools:VG Ease of use: F Noise: F Emissions: E Overall Rating: 64 The Dyson Model DC14 Complete was: Cleaning carpet: G Cleaning bare floors: E Cleaning with tools: G Ease of use: F Noise: G Emissions: E Overall Rating: 64 Make sure you know the model number of the vacuums you are comparing - not just the name. So, taking into account cost and the types of floors you have, you can make your own informed decision.

Just bought the Dyson Animal DC 017. In about five minutes I had half the canister full of just plain dirt. There may have been hair in there too but it did a tremendous job on my carpet. It was on sale at Kohl's and there was also 15% off for seniors.
I don't get around to vacuuming often so I think the extra expense is worth it. After I got mine home I found out my niece has one and wouldn't have anything else. She has three children and a dog. |

I recently purchased the Eureka Maxima, canister, because I hated the cleaner that I was using, It went throught so many bags. The Eureka is so good that I have to dump the canister out a number of times before I am even close to being finished. I had thought that my prevoius one was doing a good job! It's not all that expensive, and the key thing for me when purchasing a cleaner is to see how easy it is to find the filters. I found the filters at every department store I looked, and even the grocery store.

We have a Dyson and love it. As mentioned in previous post it has been far superior to our other vacuum. However, Consumer Reports was not impressed. Their biggest negative for the Dyson was the efficiency of cleaning carpet achieving the middle (good) rating. It also was rated good (average) for noise, ease of use, and cleaning with tools. It rated excellent for efficiency of cleaning bare floors and emissions.
CR Quick Recommendations Upright vacuum cleaners Nearly all full-sized uprights cleaned bare floors quickly and neatly, but carpets remain the toughest challenge for most machines. Top-scoring models deep-cleaned impressively while providing strong airflow through the hose for use with tools. Most full-sized uprights weigh about 20 pounds. The highest-scoring lightweight upright was the 9-pound Riccar SupraLite RSL3, but it has no tools and was noisy enough that we recommend you wear ear protection to prevent hearing loss. Another noisy upright for which you'll need ear plugs or muffs is the Dirt Devil Vision Self-Propelled M087900. Pay particular attention to our noise ratings if you have bare floors, which echo sound. Our tests found one model, the Hoover Fusion U5180-900, that leaked dust or broke consistently enough to be judged Not Recommended. The Eureka Optima 431A released enough dust while vacuuming with tools to be judged Not Recommended. The Ratings rank uprights by overall performance. See Quick Picks for models that combine performance and value. Quick Picks Best uprights for most tasks: • Electrolux Oxygen3 EL5035A , $400 • Eureka Boss Smart Vac Ultra 4870 , $150, CR Best Buy • Kenmore (Sears) Progressive with Direct Drive 35922 , $300, CR Best Buy The Kenmore (Sears) Progressive with Direct Drive 35922 excels at cleaning carpets and bare floors, and vacuuming using tools. The Electrolux Oxygen3 EL5035A offers more features, but is a notch lower for bare floors and tools suction and costs more. Both models are excellent when it comes to emissions. The Eureka Boss Smart Vac Ultra 4870 trades some through-the-hose suction for a much lower price. But its carpet and bare floors cleaning are excellent. If light weight and low cost are worth a few trade-offs: • Hoover Tempo Widepath U5140-900 , $60 • Bissell PowerForce 3522-6 , $40 The 16-pound Hoover Tempo Widepath U5140-900 is among the best at cleaning carpets, a plus because you cannot switch off the brush. If you have more bare floors than carpet, seldom use the included tools, and need a low-emissions model, you may prefer the 18-pound, bagless Hoover EmPower U5262-910, which was otherwise judged similarly. For a quieter vacuum, the 14-pound Bissell PowerForce 3522-6 scored very good or better for carpets and bare floors, but is pretty basic. CR Quick Recommendations Canister vacuum cleaners Nearly all canisters do a fine job of cleaning bare floors and on stairs, but carpets remain their toughest challenge. Top-scoring models combine impressive deep-cleaning with strong airflow through the hose for use with tools for cleaning upholstery and drapes. Most full-sized canisters tend to be heavier, bulkier and more expensive than uprights. Pay particular attention to our noise ratings if you have bare floors, which echo sound. The Ratings rank canisters by overall performance. See Quick Picks for models that combine performance and value. Quick Picks Best canisters for most tasks: • Kenmore (Sears) Progressive 25614 , $350 • Kenmore (Sears) Progressive 25512 , $300, CR Best Buy Both Kenmores are best on bare floors, tops for emissions, and fine on carpets, but the Kenmore (Sears) Progressive 25512 is easier to use. If you have mostly carpeting, consider the Electrolux Oxygen3 Ultra EL7020A, which outperformed the Kenmores on carpets, but is noisier and more expensive. |

I had the top of the line Kenmore canister vac and thought it was very effective...until i got my Dyson animal...It picked up a ton of stuff that the Kenmore missed. I will have had it two years this December...and I am still impressed as i was the first day i used it. I have a hairy corgi, two LONG haired cats - a maine coon and a persian AND a domestic shorthaired cat that sheds like mad...and it keeps up great. We got ours new in the box on Ebay - so we with shipping spent about $380 for it...worth every penny.
