Pink puppy paws turning black
This is rather a curiosity. I know when dogs are young, their paws are all pink. When they get older, it turns black and pretty rough. Is it normal like that? When Milo was younger, his paws were so soft. Now, it's turning more black. Does it mean it's dirty or something else? Sometimes he has some calluses so I rub his paws. Not sure if that helps him but he doesn't feel pain or anything.
Anyone know about these things? |

Human feet start out soft, too. But the more you use them, the rougher they get. I'd imagine dogs pads go through something similar.
Jackie's pads have always been pink with black spots. I just love 'em!!

Tuck spends a lot of time in the water. It's amazing to me when he gets out his feet are clean and still pretty pink.
I was thinking the other day that for all the miles Miss Lullu is logging, her feet stay pretty pink.

I also have a balm for Jackie's pads (which I use in the winter because of the winter boot fiasco!) . . . called Musher's Secret. It will protect his little pads.

Dillon's feet were soft and pink with some black spots too and now they are pretty rough but still pink and black. Sometimes if they get really dirty they look brown with black spots! The black got blacker with age and the pink got to be less girly pink and more of an apricot color...Also when Dillon first came home his belly was pink with freckles, which have faded some with age....attaching pics for everyone to see... hee hee

Dillydoodle - Dillon's little paws are too cute! And has the classic bunny butt. I love how the corgi's butt are always so cute. A lot of other dogs have tails and they usually lift and whip up. I don't like to see certain things. Corgi butts are more discreet and round!

sweetlychee- I love the way you describe the corgi butt as being descreet and round! so very true. Dillon still has spots on his belly, only they have faded a lot, and I have to get him really wet to see the slight darker color...I think it is really cute. I wonder why puppies have tummy freckles that fade with time? do most puppies have this? curious if anyone else noticed tummy freckles that have faded?

If your Corgi stayed indoors and on grass lawns outdoors and never went on hard surfaces such as roads, street pavements etc, he/she would retain fully soft pink pads.
Taylor is three and he gets a huge amount of hard surface walking and running - and yet his pads are 80 percent pink and are still soft. So work that one out. |

I was always thinking if it was normal for Milo's tummy to have some pink and freckles. Now I know!
We try to take Milo to more easy walking places - grass and trees area. But pavement is everywhere so it's hard. |
