Thought everyone would like to know that I received an email from Chip's breeder today. She said that she would like to give me a pup when Chip's mother has her next litter and she wants me to have pick of the litter. She had emailed inquiring on how he is doing and even sent Chip a get well card. I have talked with her on the phone to keep her up to date on Chip and I told her the vet said that Chip's overbite was a fluke and probably not heriditary or caused by anything she did. I am very touched by this offer and I think it speaks highly of her character.

Chip is doing very well although he doesn't come around me as much. He didn't like the pain medicine that I give him via a syringe. I am not sure about the pup - that decision would have to take some thought. I would love another corgi - everyone wants at least two. LOL I have 4 dogs though. Lady is about 14 and she has aged alot since Digger and Jasmine is 10.

Bonnie - go for it. Don't give the breeder any chance of reconsidering her offer when all the furore dies down. You need some real great news right now and this is it even though it is unfortunately like a back hander or a cruel stroke of luck. If I offered you a brand new car of your choice from a range of 11 models or a beautiful Corgi pup from a range of a litter of 11. I'd say that you would choose the Corgi over the car.
Chip is not a happy chappie at the moment. But he'll get back to his normal self when the pain and your anguish subsides. And will he just love a Corgi playmate!!! |

I think you should seriously consider the pup Bonnie. Obviosly I dont have to sell you on the idea of having more than one dog. As you have to elder dogs, this might be a good thing in the long run.
Don't worry about Chip not coming around you as much right now, once he's done with the meds, he'll get back to being your boy. Maybe try and have some special moments with him with a treat he would really like - Rupe goes nuts when I let him lick Cheez Whiz off a spoon - his eyes roll back and practically bug out. Or let him lick peanut butter off your fingers - at least it would be soft for him.

Wow Bonnie, that's very nice of her. Not an easy offer to turn down!!!! When does she plan to breed Chip's (biological) mom again?

Chip's mother should be bred this week or next so that gives me 4 months to make my decision. There are alot of pros and cons to getting a new pup and I haven't decided one way or the other yet. You are correct - I really don't think that we will have Lady for much longer. She has gotten very frail since we lost Dig and doesn't want to eat unless you tempt her with meat. The vet said she is healthy and her heart is good but she has never stopped grieving for Dig. If we had found a good home for Maybelle, I would take a pup in a heartbeat but Chip and Maybelle are great friends and she is a part of the family now. You never know what 4 months will bring so I have just got to wait and see. 3 of my 4 children all have said they would love a pup but I know if I picked up the right one, I wouldn't be able to part with it so I am still up in the air. No decision yet. I also have got to think of what is best for Chip because out of 4 dogs, he is the only one that is mine. Lady has always been my husband's dog and Maybelle is the same way. Jasmine is very independent and aloof. Chip is doing fine - no more pain medicine so he is starting to come around me more and is only upset with me during the day. He wanted me to play this morning and that is a first since his surgery. He has stopped nibbling on people so he has gotten used to that tooth but he is going through another puppy stage and I think that is because he feels so much better. Pain free.

I am glad to hear that Chloe is yours. Everyone needs their own special pup. That was the way Digger and I were. Everyone knew where his loyalty and love was - we had a special relationship and that is what I miss so much.

Bonnie - there is no decision to make - if you get a freely given pup, one of your children will have him or her - I presume that at least one of them is old enough to take full responsibility for a Corgi pup.
I am so pleased that Chip is getting near to the same Chip of old - only he should be better off following his reconstructions. |

Thank you Michael.
Chip is definitely back to his former self - minus (I believe) his stitches. The black spot of his stitches can't be seen from a glance anymore so I think they came out but the hole is hardly detectable either unless I am missing it which I doubt. No more pain meds so he isn't mad at me and doesn't run from me at all any more. He has to go back to Knoxville a week from tomorrow for suture removal and I will take him rather they are there or not for a recheck and peace of mind. I talked to the breeder yesterday afternoon for over an hour and she is going to keep me up to date on the puppy situation and I have 4 months at least to decide if I want one or not. I have decided that my decision will be based on what is best for Chip. Right now he is the baby of the family even though Maybelle is a month or two younger than him she babies him too. He is a happy lil corgi and I want him to stay that way. If we decide to get a pup, there will be 2 - 3 trips to KY with Chip so he can help us pick it out and see how he interacts with a pup and watch the pup's personality very close. A new pup would have to fit in to our family. Remember no fighting is allowed with my crew. My daughter would love to have a corgi pup and that is another possibility. The breeder also has a little male pup that is about 4 months old. she says he is very loving and lap oriented and not dominate at all. She said she rocks him to sleep every night and he just loves it - she has offered him to me if that is the one I would like. He is a tri. She really wants to give me a pup but doesn't want to force one on me. She feels really bad about this - It doesn't bother me any more since Chip is all fixed and doing well and the stress of worrying about him is over.

I talked with Chip's breeder today and Chip's mother is due to have her puppies any time. I miscalculated the timing. Anyway, we have decided to get one. (A corgi expert
recommended that we get a female so we are leaning that way) We are going to base our choice on the temperment because I want a calm, quiet puppy that will get along well with Chip. We are planning on driving over about 3 to 4 weeks after the puppies are born for a looksee and she is sending me pics soon after they arrive. Of course, we will take our Chip with us. We are going to name her Dale. Wish us luck!
